Dealer markup from MSRP

I talked with my buddy today, who is a fleet manager at the local dealership. They have posted markup stickers next to the main sticker adding dealer markup of a couple of thousand dollars to the msrp. He say's they did this for a couple of reasons. The trucks seem to be moving fast out of dealer stock. He's sold four in two days, and some of the trucks that were there last Friday weren't there today. The other, for him anyway, is that he wants to be able to make money on the not so nice customers that come in. He did tell me that deals can be made through negotiations. So they are starting that premium pricing stuff.

Sorry to hear that. Over here in the deep south they are sitting on the lots and not moving for weeks. They are hoping for Msrp and settling on a bit less.

Re: Dealer markup from MSRP

That's nuts, find one in another state and fly 1-Way to pick it up. You'll still be saving thousands. Or, if you have time to wait, order one. There should not be any reason for markup on an ordered truck.

I live in the DFW area. I had originally ordered a truck for $200 over dealers invoice. However, the dealer kept giving me the run around on it, so I started pricing trucks on the lot at various places near me. I had several that would not move much off MSRP and pretty much told me I was crazy if I thought I could get one at dealers invoice. I found the one I wanted (04 Lariat SCrew) and got it for $200 under dealers invoice ( that would be dealers invoice minus the $207 FDAF fee). So I got this truck for over $4000 off MSRP. This is also not any news to the people who visit this site often. Most have ordered or purchased trucks for right around dealers invoice. (Also, I had none of the Ford A,D,Z, or X plans)

If you are serious about buying right away, and let them know that, you can get a deal. Good luck.

Scott

what city are you in KDTruckie? around here in LA they have them priced at MSRP, like everyone, but they are making deals. i suspect they are flying off the lots because dealers are making good deals. either htat or people are paying way too much without knowing any better.

I'm up in Sonoma County, about 40 miles North of San Francisco. I know I can get the price I want from my dealer because he knows I'll just go a county or two inland and get it. It's just the people who don't know better who're gonna pay what the dealer wants to give it to them for. Just more game playing room for the dealers to deal down from markup instead of up from invoice or less. The markup on the FX4 I took pictures of made it over 40 grand on the window! One reason I'm sure they've done this is Marin and Sonoma counties are supposed to be "Affluent", which means more money than sense to some people!

Bought my 2004 lariat screw in south texas at x-plan price which is about $300 less than invoice off dealers lot. Black, sunroof,
floorshifter, tan leather, multi cd changer, sliding rear window,
and tow package. No 4x4. Don't need it. Only pull Harley Fatboy
to shop for oil changes. Great truck with many stares coming
my way.

what are Ford's A,D,Z, or X plans? I've never heard of this, is it a way to get a better deal on a truck?

Thumbs down

I would tell that dealer that when you do buy one it will not be from him.

He's didn't even take you out to dinner and he's trying to %^*# you.
