No redline?!!

Just got my FX4 & noticed that there isn't any redline indicated on the tachometer. I really doubt that this means it's OK to go to the 7,000 rpm shown on the tach, so does any one have an idea what the redline is for the 5.4? Does the Lariat or XLT show a redline?

I think that is because only a automatic is offered and the transmision shifts at a certain rpm any way no way to red line it unless you ar planning on going 120 miles per hour or something like that.

The engines can handle 10000 rpm no problem
No but yeah what jason said, your engine won't let you redline so don't worry. I would say its probably around 5800 or so (not to sure on the newer ones actually, old ones are around there) but yeah, just don't concern yourself. Actually i dont think theres been an actual redline mard on a ford truck at least since 97.

Oh and i don't think theyll let you hit 120. Limiters still at 98 right?

Most vehicles for well over 10 years or so have rev limiters built into them. The computer monitors the rpm’s and if they go above a pre-set level it cuts power to the engine so you don’t over rev it. If it goes to high it will cut off fuel flow. So even though you don’t have a red line you can see the computer knows the red line and will not let you exceed it…

Consumers have a difficult time reading guages. Why confuse them even more?

The engine has a special rev limiter chip built in it that will kick in and shut off fuel flow to your engine once it detects that you are going 150 mph. That way you will not blow up your engine. If you remove the chip you can top the truck out at 180 mph.

There is no special chip that does that. It is part of the computer program. The only way to remove the rev limiter is to either have the computer “reflashed” with another program that edits out or sets the rev limiter to a different setting in the new program. Second way to do it is with a performance chip like Superchips that has as part of its code a different limit for the rev limiter or none at all. I believe they all have some type of safety built into the program/code so as to protect the motor from major damage.

Disclaimer: I was kidding.... If you wanted to go 150 mph you bought the wrong truck. You want the lightning with a bored out cynlider and a nitrous bottle.

We all wish it was that easy.

Last summer on 2 trips to Chicago I took both a Grand Am and a Stratus rental to 118+, nothing blew up . The engine then disengaged, not bad for some 4bangers.
