'04 Super Crew Towing Capacities

The highest towing capacity for a 4X4 supercrew with the 5.4l would be 9200 lb with the 3.73 rear, 3.55 gear would drop it down to 8200 lb. Max payload for a supercrew 4X4 would be 1530 lb. I think the 3.55 gears are standard on 4X4 crews with the 5.4 and 3.73 is the only option for ratios. Tire options would be 255/70's or 275/65's. Also if you get 18" wheels on FX4 or Lariat then you would need to cut the towing cap by 500lb.

Then enjoy your F-150. It will do fine. How do you plan to tow it, open trailer, enclosed, tow dolly? I rented a tow dolly this past weekend to take a 2700 pound car about 70 miles. I had no problems on the flat highway at 70-75mph. Just leave more room for stopping.
If you plan to use a trailer, I highly recommend one with brakes and a brake controller, especially if you come through the Rockies.

BigJim, those trailers weigh a good 2000-3000 pounds plus another 3500 pounds for the Mustang. I highly recommend buying a brake controller and making sure the U-haul flatbed has trailer brakes. You'll be fine if you take it easy and keep distance. The power for pulling should not be too much a of an issue, but stopping can get scary on highway roads.
Anyway, you cna pick up a decent brake controller for 70 or one of the best for $100.
