Tell us what you got/are getting and why!

I'd like to hear stories from you guys about what type of F150 you got (XLT, FX4, Lariat...was it a regcab, supercab, or screw) and what were the specifics surrounding your decisions, for instance, why you took a supercab over a supercrew. I think it'd be kind of interesting to hear other people's takes on the process of buying their trucks.
Go ahead...amuse me.

Well I'm getting a SCrew Lariat 4x4...heres the reasons why...I had a 2001 SCab Lariat 4x4 and just had my first kiddie (Monica Celine) 7-29-03...so I definetly need a SCrew...especially when we figure on having another screaming mimi sometime in the near future and I'm keepin this truck till the wheels fall off. Decided on the 4x4 cause I live in Michigan (Detroit) and with the snow I'm gonna need it. Lariat cause I get "A" plan and the more ya spend the bigger the percentage off....and there really isn't that much of a difference (price wise) between a Lariat and an FX4.

I have always wanted to have the nicest ride on the streets and now I want my wife to have it as well.

4x4 Lariat
Moonroof
Audiophile
Tow Pkg
Two-Tone
Capt. Chairs
Flow through Console
Bed Extender

For the value of what options you get I liked the Lariat pricing vs XLT and the FX4.

Does anyone know approx how long it takes for a truck to be delivered after receiving a build date?
I finally received my build date and it was scheduled to be built today (09/08)! When will it arrive if the date holds true?

Thanks

Screw Lariat 4x4 Loaded (Everything but moonroof and deluxe seats -- don't have much use for heated seats in SC)

Reasons -- I drive a lot (Approximately 35000miles/year). In fact I currently have a 99 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 144000 (No problems but its starting to act like it has 144000 miles on it) plus about 10000 miles I have put on my mother in law's Ranger since I got my truck. You ride that much you might as well ride in style.

I also carry a lot of tools in my job. Currently the entire rear (behind middle seats) is full of tools. Got tired of having a potential missle hit me in the back of the head if I was to get in an accident.

I use the current seating arrangement in my Expedition regularly so I got 4 full doors.

Finally, in my job, I do travel into places that need a 4x4. Currently, I have limited slip in my Expedition and that gets me into most locations. However, there have been a bunch that I have walked to because there was no one to fish me out if I sank.

Lariat SCrew 4X2 with most options except moonroof and heated seats.

Reason getting it; ever seen a full grown man and 2 kids with 2 car seats in a regular cab Ranger (93 and still runs great). I have been waiting for the 04 to roll out for quite awhile. Could have got a 03 a long time ago but just don't like them.

I went with the FX4 Supercrew. Supercrew because of the added interior room and the 4 full doors despite the 1 ft loss in the bed. I chose the FX4 because of the looks. Just looks tougher than the Lariat. Didn't like the Lariat's front grill or fake wood interior. Loaded it up with the works, cause this is my work truck and I spend more time in this than I do in the car.

I'm getting mine for several reasons . .

. . .I ordered a SuperCrew Lariat 4X4 with everything except moonroof and heated seats. I did this for several reasons.

1. Tailgating at UGA football games. With this vehicle I can tow my grill to the game, pack the bed with tables, chairs, coolers, tents, and drive 4 adults comfortably to the game. I had considered buying the Explorer Sport Trac 2 years ago but decided it was too small.

2. Camping. I do a fair amount of camping/fishing trips and often need to haul in good amount of gear. This truck allows me to fill the bed with firewood (gotta have a big fire the whole time) fill the rear of the cab with my camping supplies, and get me and my dad where we need to go. By getting the 4x4 with skid plates added I can take it to some of the more remote places we frequent.

3. Looks. The damn thing just looks great. I like the more angular and boxy trucks. To be honest 5-6 years ago I wanted nothing more than a Chevy Z-71 because of it's boxy aggressive look. Well now the 2004 F-150 returns to that design after 6 years of a more curvaceous look and I absolutely love it.

4. Great interior. I've grown to enjoy having some nice things in life and the Screw Lariat combines the toughness I need along with a nice refined almost luxury car like interior. Granted I won't be getting in it all muddy and soaking wet after falling in a trout steam without first throwing my clothes in the back but then again I won't have to worry about taking it out on the town either.

All around I think it's a great truck and a definite step up from my last Ford purchase . . . a 1997 Ranger!

I ordered an XLT Supercab 4x2 with the 4.6L engine. Being single and on a budget, I couldn't afford the FX4 or 5.4L engine and the XLT's come equipped awesomely (love those rear power windows).

I got the 2004 instead of the 2003 because it resembles the truck I'm trading in, an 89 Ranger.

Sure hope this new truck is a babe magnet.

FX4

I ordered the FX4 with all options except leather. Would have ordered the Lariat if the leather could have been deleted. Haven't had a vehicle without leather in 20 years so thought I would try something different. Also think the FX4 looks a little tougher than the Lariat but I really would like some of the bells and whistles only offered on the Lariat. Went with a 4 wheel drive because I wanted it (like the looks) not because I needed it. Went with the SCrew because I think this truck will eventually replace my 4-door Explorer. Bottom line: I like the way the FX4 SCrew looks...

I am getting a 2WD XLT Supercrew with D plan. I like the FX4 interior slightly more, but I DON'T want a 4WD. I NEVER go offroading or drive in snow and wanted the best gas mileage possible. I also didn't like the woodgrain on the Lariat. So there was something I liked about every series but decided on the most economical for what I want, instead of getting a bunch of stuff I will never use. (ex. 4WD).

Good thread.

Tell ya what I'm not gettin'

I was going to buy a new Screw. Then I figured out that all I was getting was more truck that I didn't need, a fancy interior that I didn't need, and a $32,000 mortgage on it that I didn't need.

My 02 Screw serves me well; I dont suffer from ego excessive compulsive brain-dead lack of common sense. (This message was from me to me - I Love Ford Trucks, just glad I came to my senses before I commited - not a reflection on those of you with diferent motivation!)

I'm getting a Scab Lariat 4x4 with moonroof, audiophile, 3.73LS, deluxe heated seat package and two tone (green/biege).

I would love to get a screw but with the cost and my priorities it didn't work out. Basically the 4x4, Leather, Moonroof, etc, took priority over getting a lesser equipped screw. My kids should be the only rear seat occupants and from what I've seen the Scab should be roomy enough.

Hey Buster50, how long ago did you order your truck? I ordered an XLT Screw 4X4 on 7/31 and still do not have a build date. Based on info from other threads, it looks like two weeks is a good estimate for build date to delivery. Would appreciate anyone else who has info on build dates.

FX4 scab

I live in NH, so winters suggested I get 4WD, plus I wouldnt mide a bit of gentle offroading, nothing beyond the trucks ability. I did not want the floor shifter, it felt flimsy to me, and if I have a truck, i want it to feel tough. So that took the Lariet out, well... that and the ugly wood trim.

I proginally priced an XLT with a binch of options, and realized I was just $200 from an FX4, so to get the upgraded interior I opted for the FX4.
