Post pics of what you bought and why

I really like my 04 Lariat Supercab. I know Super Crews are all the rage, but to me a Supercab looks like a sports coupe. I like the tough body lines and the roll up windows, rear seat angle and doors provide real comfort for rear seat passengers, even in the Supercab. I also like the large side opening with the better access available because Ford thoughtfully engineered the seatbelts into the seats.

When looking at vehicles I was in the market for the Mercedes C Class Sport, Lexus IS300, Mazda RX-8, or redesigned F150. Sounds like an odd group to comparison shop until you realize they all cost about the same, get about the same mileage (Mercedes excluded) and have nice interiors that would not embarass you to take a client out to dinner in. And the truck (yee gads) handles very well. The rack and pinion steering, improved structure and suspension make it as pleasant as a sports sedan in normal Atlanta driving (traffic). Also, it makes me happy to buy American, especially when this is the best product in its class on the Planet!

Of course the truck is far more practical than other choices too. Clients don't think you are showing off with their money and since I'm in the aviation business, "You need that engine now? No problem, crate it up and I will be there." My Ranger with nearly 200,000 miles on it remains the daily airport truck.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the Audiophile sound system - it is the best I've heard in any vehicle at any cost. The 18 inch wheels, foglamps and paint scheme without strips give the truck a sporty, custom, appearance.

Now when will good bedcovers hit the market and a nav system for the overhead console area.

Have fun

FX4 SuperCrew 4X4, Audiophile, Moonroof, Black Tubular RBs, Black cloth interior, 40/20/40. I bought my first 4X4 w/ my '98 Explorer and can't see myself going back to a regular 2 wheel drive. Wanted Screw mainly because I plan on having a family within the next year or so and want the room. I really have no actulal need for a truck, but I kind of always wanted one and they look really cool. Now, everyone and their mom has an SUV and I'm kind of tired of them. I went w/ FX4 because it is the best looking one of the five, in my opinion. Love the grill, optional 18" wheels, gague set up, and the dash looks great with the black and warm steel. Went with the bench seat because I do not want the floor shifter. Not a fan of the Lariat mainly because of the looks of the tan interior and the wood grain.

well, i will participate in this thread despite not having ordered yet. i will be getting Lariat 4x4 Scab, black interior, 6.5' bed, Toreador red, 3.73LSD, all the options except skid plates, moonroof, and heated seats (it's hot enough in LA).

i chose 4x4 because it's not much more expensive and i hope to go out with one of the local 4x4 clubs.

i chose Scab because i just don't like the styling of the Screw exterior. looks unbalanced to me. i love the styling of the Scab. since i am single, no one can complain about the back seat being small. i will tell them, "just be glad there is a back seat. you could be riding in the truck bed with the dog and the tools if i got a regular cab."

I'm awaiting delivery of a:

Lariat 4x2
Toreador Red (mono)
Tan Interior
Leather Captains Chairs w/ flow thru console
3.73 LSD
Every option, except moonroof

Built 9/3... awaiting delivery.

I chose this truck because I'm averaging 1 new car per decade and I wanted a truck this time around.... since I saw the redesigned F150, nothing else would do.

~ I like all of the bells and whistles in a vehicle since I keep 'em around for quite a while. Comfort is very important to me as I want a vehicle that will put a smile on my face every time I get in it... (will probably never use the heated seats, but they're there just in case)
~ I live in CA, so I don't need a 4x4, plus the 4x2 has a little extra towing capacity... but 500 lbs are lost with 18" tires so I guess that balances out...
~ Tan interior because I currently have black leather and it gets friggin' HOT. I usually don't put the top down on the mustang because it gets sooo damn hot...
~ SCrew because I need room to hold my growing family on our boating / jet ski trips to the river.

I'll problably be getting an 05 model. Because I get out of college in mid 04, and I should get my first "really good" job by late 04 or early 05. I'm going with a Bright Red, 2WD, regular cab, XLT with the 5.4L V8. I don't need 4wd because I only go on the "light trails" and I don't drive in the snow or ice. The main reason I like this truck is because it's built alot stronger all around, has more than enough power, and should last 10+ years if I keep it that long.

What: Lariat Supercrew 4x4 two-tone (Toreador Red, Tan interior) all the opitons. No DVD or rack because of the Moonroof. I ordered it on 8/11/03. No VIN # or build date yet.

Why: Because its time to spoil myself. I have had my 1986 Supercab F250 since it was brand new. It has had a good life and its time to put it to rest. The only reason I need a truck is to pull my boat. I really dont need the 4x4 but I figure when it comes time to sell it it will hold its value a little more.

i feel you on the black interior getting hot, but have you seen the Tan? it is damn near white and I am afraid it will get dirty in no time. black seems easier to keep clean. what do you think wingn8ive?

Wink

Lariat 4X4 SCrew
Aspen Green/Arizona Beige two tone
Captains chairs
Moonroof
3.73 Limited Slip
LT Tires
Power rear window
Skid plate
Audiofile
Bedliner

Why? I love trucks...currently have a S10 with 200K miles on it. And I love luxury...currently have a 2001 BMW 530i that I'm trying to sell now for around 35K that I can throw on the Lariat. Anyone interested? Only 17.6K miles...showroom condition! A SCrew because I have a 3 year old and a 19 month old that are still in child seats...will be perfect for them.

I hear ya.. it is a tad on the light side. I thought it would be darker, from the pictures, then I saw it in person.... holy moley !

Despite the light color, I don't think it'll be too bad... depending on what the truck is used for. Give the seats a wipe down every now and then (once a week or as needed ??) and everything should be fine. I'm not gonna sweat it, though.

Also, I think they'll wear a little better than black. When black wears, the lines (or creases) formed in the seats tend to turn white or gray.

I should maybe participate in my thread, huh?
I will be getting an Dark Shadow Grey XLT SuperCrew with the 5.4, moonroof, two tone captain's chairs, power seats and the power rear sliding window. Not too many options.

I decided on the SCrew over the SC because I'll be using the A Plan, so why the hell not, you know? I'm almost married anyways, so why not have a "family car" waiting in the wings?

I toyed with the idea of getting an FX4 SCrew, but I live in Los Angeles and my daily commute translates to 50 minutes each way on the freeway, so there is really no need for a 4x. Even though I like the look of the FX4 much more than the XLT, I couldn't justify to myself dropping another $4500 for stuff I don't really need for the sake of aesthetics.

You guys have some interesting stories. Keep them coming!

I just bought my first ford and it was the 04 Fx4. I didn't want leather and I thought the front grill was tougher looking. I got everything else in it and it's jet black! I love this truck. I rides great, it's quiet and it's hot. I was a chevy girl forever but I have to say this is the nicest truck out there and that's why I bought it!

I've got an FX4 on order. Build date of 9/14. Super Crew Cab. It's going to be our new family truckster. Plus I dirtbike and camp and stuff so I need something to get me through some mud and hills. I've had Rangers for the last 10 years and love them but need something bigger. FX4 seemed to come out cheaper with the skid plates, limited slip, bigger engine, and other off road upgrades. I ended up gett the captain chairs since it's so new and looks cool. I ordered the Charcoal grey with the 17 inch wheels since there seemed to be more aftermarket tire options for that rim size. I plan to drive it straight to the tire shop and put on BFG Radial All terrain TKO tires. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what size to get. No floor boards because they hang up in the deep stuff. I'm going to install a rope ladder so the wife and kid can get into it,

I considered getting a good deal on an 03 but with all of the improvements and changes and a 9 year old body style I thought it would be more cost effective (less depreciation) to buy a newer one at the beginning of a body style. Plus the boxed frame, more ponies, etc....

I am worried about getting a brand new engine though. I'm considering the extended warranty.

I seriously can't wait for it to arrive!!!!!!!

damn it wingn8ive, you've given me another thing to think about. i've noticed that tan does wear better because the cracks and creases blend in. first it was the paint choice that was my dilema, now it's the interior color. grrr...
