"Out The Door Price"

Question:

When you make a deal and get, say, $100 over Invoice, is this the "Out The Door" price minus (-) Taxes and Registration?
Well, the answer is "Yes", but.....

What about the so called "Marketing" fees?
How about a Conveyance fee? (Ever heard of this one?)

Therefore, the deal might look like this:

Invoice + $100, + $150 (Marketing Fee), + $199 (Conveyance Fee) = $449 over Invoice minus (-) Taxes and Registration.

Does this seem right?
Are the Marketing and Conveyance Fees like garbage fees when you apply for a Mortgage. ie... ex: $200 for fedex or $100 for Credit Reports......

Should we refuse to pay anymore than the agreed upon dollar amount over Invoice?

Example:

Dealer has agreed to sell me an FX4 for Invoice ($34,000)
plus (+) $200.

Please respond only if you have solid info on this topic, otherwise this Thread will get off track, boring, repetitive and lengthy.

Thanks!!!

Everything is Negotiable. but

add on fees are garbage and poor business.

My deal is dealer's invoice plus $ 100 (Credit Union Buying Service) plus taxes & tags(registration). Nothing else.

Everything else is just another way to get a higher price out of the buyer. Don't pay it, go elsewhere.

I would not pay those fees. If you agreed on invoice and those charges do not appear on the invoice, walk out and go to another dealer. If they do appear on the invoice, I'd still walk to another dealer. Some charges are simply dealer imposed.

I know these '04's have an FDAF Assessment fee (or something like that), which is a fee Ford is passing on to all dealers for advertising and whatnot. I wouldn't pay this fee, either.

Luckily I'm A-Plan, but if you agree on, say, $100 over invoice... then that's what your final price is.... INVOICE + $100 + TAXES AND REGISTRATION = OUT THE DOOR WITH AN '04 !

my $.02, but hope it helps.

FDAF has been on all vehicles for years. Its included in the Invoice price, its not a fee, you don't get a choice of not paying it. If you've ever noticed a differnce in the internet invoice pricing and what actual invoice is, thats due the FDAF thats on the invoice and the fuel charge that Ford adds.

The other fee's like DOC fees are fake and I wouldn't pay them.

Thanks for the replies...

The problem is that you plunk down a deposit of say $500 and then the truck arrives and your stuck either way.
1) If you walk, you lose your $500
2) If you walk you also have to wait another 6 months for the truck.

Here's my personal experience:

Ordered my FX4 on 7/16/03
On the Retail Purchase Order that I signed, it says $200 over Invoice (hand written) because this document does not have pricing on it.

Half way down this document is a "typed" box called a "Conveyance Fee" and they hand printed $199 in this box.
The Conveyance Fee is under the heading for "Registration Information"...

So at this point I see a descrepancy on this document:

How can they write $200 over Invoice and also $199 on top of that for a Conveyance Fee...???

I inquired about it with the dealer and his quote/unquote statement was "Everybody pays this fee"....

I haven't noticed FDAF before, basically because this will be my first new vehicle in almost 10 years...

When my truck was ordered initially, FDAF charge was not reflected in the comfirmation. A few weeks later, the audiophile system price needed to be adjusted and FDAF appeared.

Also, I've read (on this board) that some buyers were able to get the dealer to deduct this charge from the invoice....

I doubt it ....

Everything is negotiable, they won't want to lose the sale, keep your $ 500 and lose maybe $ 30,000?

On the other hand how bad to you want it? Do you want to pay $ 400 over invoice, cause that is what you are really doing.

You might have to fight for the deposit but you won't lose it.

That is add on by your delar and only your deaer.

Well, here's how I see the FDAF charge...

If you pre-ordered an 04 F-150, what advertisement did you use from Ford???

The answer is NONE!!! They should be paying us for pre-ordering these trucks and getting them on the road early with that "BIG ***" emblem on the back!!!!

Where's my money!!!!!!

I did exactly that. The FDAF Assessment charge was listed on the dealer's invoice but NOT on KBB or Edmunds. It is indeed a legitimate charge but like someone else said previously, everything is negotiable and in my case the dealer subtracted the $295.00 FDAF and so I ended up with a deal $200 BELOW invoice. Now....if it would only come in!!!

I'm a thick headed Pollock, I will walk even though I want this truck and have been waiting for it...

I think your right, they will drop the $199 fee if I threaten to walk out.

I don't like the fact that they lied about "everybody pays this fee"
That crap just irratates the heck out of me. You never stop feeling like your getting screwed, somewhere in the dealing. This goes for just about any purchase where the price in negotiable, such as housing and mortgages, ughh....

some dealers play this game to the hilt and not just on new trucks but service too. I've had doc fees, Texas applicant fees, marketing fees. They are basically a test. They are not illegal per say. THe only fees are what the government demands. You could even argue that shipping charges are b.s. but everybody is used to them.

They get you wherever, whenever. I took my SUV for an alignment and they added $20.00 for lubricants etc. I asked how much lubricant they used to align my truck and they replied "oh, we charge that to everybody." After I started having to argue with the guy ---- and started to attract the attention of some other customers in the service area....ahem... they agreed to take it off. Some of the dealers are so nickel and dime they lose sight.
