Rhino or Line-X

I've been checking out these 2 brands of spray on liners in an attempt to pick one for my new '04. I have samples of both and they definately have a different feel. From what I've found from these little swatches:

- Both are pretty pliable and can bend without cracking or tearing.
- Rhino has a softer feel than Line-X.
- Rhino was a bit thicker, though not much.
- Line-X has a darker, shinier look to it. A look like a newly armor-all'd dash.
- Rhino flaked, scratched and dulled when I rubben the 2 against each other.

Though I like the look and feel of Rhino, it appears that Line-X will be my choice because of the durability factor. Anyone have different opinions, preferences or examples that would change my mind? Since this is gonna be a permanent fixture in the truck, I want to make the best choice.

I did the exact same thing you did and came to the same conclusion. I am getting my line-x installed next thursday. However, it seems that the majority of people here prefer rhino.

I like the spay liners but my concern is that every time I drive my snowmbile (Arctic Cat F7) into the back of the truck the carbides on the ski's will cut through the liner? It does not cut through with a plastic box liner. Also will the box dent easier. i.e throwing in wood? That's my only concern about spray in box liners I don't want dents or cuts.

Good question...

Also, is there any price difference between Line-X and Rhino?

They're both about the same.... about $375 or so. You may find a little difference in the prices ($25 or $30) but nothing too significant, that I found. If you have them send you samples, you'll get a $20 or $25 off coupon.

I'd like to know why most like Rhino if it's less durable.

I have Line-X in my truck and love it, I am in Northridge,CA and if you want to check it out and your in the neighborhood sometime. email me. To me the line-x has a grippy feel, I can put a 30 pound box in the back it does not move when I drive around corners. In my dad's truck with the plastic drop-in, it slides around. It also is very durable. I have slid (okay..dragged) a refrigerator that had no wheels across the bed pulling it out (and putting it in of course) and there is no damage to see. The stuff is hard and I like that. Plus you can have it color matched. I found that out after I had it applied.

Also I think you would have to drop something very heavy to dent the bed, It acts like a cushion because it is pliable, but if you drop something that can bend the bed with it, you probablly just punched a hole in a plastic one and damaged the bed anyways.

As for the carbides on the snowmobile, good question, ask the dealer to spray a panel wide enough for you to test, or ask them to see if the warranty would cover any damage like this. You may have to bring it in and do a test with them. It may work out just fine.

sorry to ressurect an old thread, but i didn't see this one before (i was out of the country). anyway, I am the R&D Manager at a rubber ocmpany and we have lots of material testing equipment for abrasion, strength, etc in my lab. if someone could get me some samples i would be willing to run both materials through the ringer and provide an unbiased conclusion based on material test results. My degree is in Chemistry/Materials Science from UCLA, so this kind of testing is actually fun for me! And I would like to do this for my own decision process. while wingn8tive's test give a good comparison without any special equipment, I can provide objective data. if anyone is interested in getting samples, please email me.

I would need at least 1 sample 6"x6" in size and another sample at least 3"x6" in size. 2 or more samples 6"x6" would work fine too. let me know.

Someone get that man some samples! I'd definitely be interested to see which is the better liner seeing as how I am putting one in immediately when I get my truck.

I actually just received a sample from Line-X yesterday but it is an oval shape approx 2"x 6". Would that work? If so, let me know and I'll send it to you. Second thought, since they are located in California, it may be faster to just have them send it to you directly. Just go to their website and call their 800 number and they will send it right out.

i'll poke around the line-x and rhino sites tonight or this weekend and see what i can find. maybe i can call them and request larger samples. an abrasion test requires a 4 inch circle (that we cut from a 6"x6" sheet usually). other properties can be tested on the 2"x6" sample you described. i'll see what i come up with and post it back here. might have to wait until next week because i doubt they got people working the phones on the weekends.
