New truck problems, fixes, dealer experiences

I hate to be the one to start this topic, but curiosity got the best of me.

My trunk has a DOA cruise control and the ABS disarm light comes on every once in a while. Then the power locks cycle and the ABS light goes out. I took it back to the dealer with 99 miles on it and they basically said they were not sure they had repair manuals yet and they thought it could be a software problem.

Rather than drive a Focus for the net however long, I took the truck home, checked fuses, re-seated some relays, nothing made a bit of difference.

At least the dealer was very nice and very straightforward about it. The truck drives like a dream and I don't need the cruise control, but on a $33,000+ vehicle, I do want it to work eventually.

What have been the experiences of others on this board?

That's a great looking truck. Gotta be frustrating a new toy and already has a minor problem. I think it would be best to wait till the spring before I buy. Is the truck running fine or is it acting up?

These kind of things are bound to happen with any vehicle, just tough luck that it happened to yours. Hopefully your dealer will get their books soon and take care of it. Good Luck.

The truck runs great! Very smooth and precise. Traded it for the Ford Focus rental (erh) while they try swapping some speed sensors. The maintenance / repair manuals are not in and the service department is unsure when they will be available. However, they wanted to get a look at the brakes ASAP, despite the fact the truck stops just fine without the ABS.

A wheel speed sensor would cause these problems on the Expedition, so they will try the sensors first on the F150.

Despite the minor problem this is one great truck and the dealer has been much better than I expected. They are doing their best and providing the rental despite the fact I do not have ESP. I expected to have to argue over the rental, but they have offered to take care of everything - nice folks!

Not that anyone gives a hoot, but the dealer replaced the front ABS sensor and everything works well. They do not have a parts inventory yet, so the one on the truck on the showroom floor donated the part until one arrives on Friday.

The dealer's service was spectacular

Thats great to hear, it sounds like they handled it well and it seems like youve been an understanding customer which goes a long way. I think most people will realize that with the new trucks theres a lot of learning that needs to go on until things settle in. Im sure knowing common problems and such like on old models is gonna be tough since they arent so common yet. Lets hope the first year model rolls off the line nice and there isnt anything major like with the 97's.

That's good to hear ~~~^~~~. I had a similar, though not nearly so good, story. When we bought the wife a new van (Dodge) back in '94, the gas gauge didn't work. We didn't notice at first because the tank was full when we bought it. After about 100 miles it went straight to E so we never knew how much gas we had. We had just returned from our first tour in England and were a few days away from making a cross-country drive to our new assignment at Edwards AFB (what a sh*t hole, no offense intended to anyone) so we needed a reliable ride. We were told the van needed a new gas tank since the sensor was in the tank and that it would take a week to get one from Atlanta, we were in NC!! Meanwhile, there's about 50 vans on the lot and after a close inspection I determined that, low and behold, they all had gas tanks. The dealership management flat out refused to take a tank from one on the lot because that might affect a possible sale. Nevermind that their decision was affecting someone who just gave them $20K+. Sorry for the rant but all this talk about broke new cars was bringing up some bad memories.

Unfortunately bad news to report.

(1) The truck was taken to the Dealer with 99 miles on the odometer. It now has 203, the Dealer let everyone in the service department drive it and the Service Manager was really exicted about how nice it was to drive my truck.
(2) The truck is no where near fixed. Same problem. We literally made it one block from the Dealership before we noticed. You would think with over 100 miles of test driving, they would have figured it out.
(3) When I commented about the mileage, they said it was necessary to diagnose the cruise control problem.
(4) With everyone driving the truck, it is now pretty well coated with grease. The seats are fairly well coated. No protection, no cover, nothing was put on there to protect the truck.

Again, everyone has been nice and I believe they are doing their level best. Their excitement in the service department is understandable but damn, the Dealer should have a demo for everyone to play with, not my truck.

Anyone have any experience with the Lemon law? I'm going to call Ford, then I'm going to start calling media outlets to vent my frustration about the launch of this vehicle. I mean come on, with electronic brake proportioning the ABS on this truck is a pretty critical system. It obviously does not work, the idiot light is a clear indication.

Bottom line, Ford should have caught this in quality control.

A frustrated Fins ~~~^~~~

Your right it should have been caught somewhere before you. Second, does your dealer have a bunch of morons working there?

It does NOT take no 100 miles to figure out what is wrong with the cruise control. They were using your, repeat YOUR truck to see how they liked it.

It don't matter how excited they may have been it was YOUR truck, a private truck, not a freaking show truck. What I would do is tell them that YOU will take it to a professional detailer to get it all cleaned up and you need an account number for the detailer to charge them for it REGARDLESS of cost.

It they don't like that TELL them to order you a new seat to go with your NEW truck and they can keep the OLD crappy one.

I can NOT believe your dealer did that, and then greased everything up.

DO NOT put up with that crap, don't matter that your truck was 33k or 1k they had NO right to go getting it all dirty and taking joy rides in it...

Ok, im pissed. 100 miles? please. Eff that, demand a new truck. There isnt a diagnosis in the world requiring 100 miles of driving. And if they were testing cruise control they arent breaking your engine in properly anyway. What asshats. I dont know lemon law or the law in your area, but i know you should definatly have some options here.

Not to sound redundant, but that sucks. I would seek action ASAP. You may turn a few heads being so close to the product launch. Last thing they need is more bad publicity like with the Explorer.

And yes, 100 miles is ridiculous. Document with pictures if you can. Good luck.
