I would encourage you to check it out in person. pics don't do it justice. i was looking at a Screw Lariat with Audiophile 2 days ago and at first I was put off by the sub, but after taking a good look, there is plenty of space when the seat flip up. the sub is flat on top and the floor is almost flat (small bump running down the middle of the cab, but not as big as in a car). you got lots of space back there even with the sub under the driver's side rear seat. i am looking into a Scab so I still need to see a lariat Scab with Audiophile to see if there is still enough space...

No built-in satellite radio with the audiophile system.

I believe the artist is Wild Cherry for the song mentioned above, and I was able to play with the audiophile in a Lariat while parked, and I was very impressed. Usually, the day after I buy a new truck, the factory stereo comes out and the aftermarket equipment goes in. I may have to keep this one for a while, plus I've never had volume controls on a steering wheel before (very convienient). For the super **** stereophiles, I think I may need to upgrade the lower end. The factory sub performs well, but just doesn't flex like a JL Audio 10W6.

Has anyone heard of MP3 options from the factory yet?

Does anyone know if it can be retrofitted to an '04 that came with the standard CD player option? It sounds like it would be a neater package than having some high school kid at Best Buy going after my electrical system with wirecutters to put in an aftermarket system.

I don´t think it can be easily done. Depends on what the equipment would cost you after the fact and I am sure it would be very pricey. Also, the amplifiers for these systems are usually mounted in very hidden and difficult to access places so it would take a great deal of dis-assembly to do and also it would depend if Ford wires every truck for the system or not. I would be interested to know that fact because if not then you are into wiring harness prices and that can be a nightmare. I would guess that you would have to have an appropriate model and maybe the cd changer option to have a chance at it already being wired. By the time you go through all of that you can buy something aftermarket and do just as well...at the least. Don´t take it to Best Buy. Take it to a shop with an MECP certified installer. There are plenty of us out there with years of experience.(Some of us with 16 years and counting). Just my thoughts.

I tried an MP3 cd in the new 6 disc changer and it didn't work. I cannot remember if it was an Audiophile system. But it shouldn't matter since they use the same head unit.

The dealer that I talked to said there were no options for a MP3 player for 2004. I think that Ford will change this though. In this day and age you almost need one. Heck, I would use the MP3 option more than Satellite radio.

I ~REALLY~ want an MP3 player built into the factory head unit. Are you listening FORD?

So the standard sub size is 10" in audiophile option? Does anyone have pics of sub/box?

Not getting audiophile...going aftermarket, but need to get an idea of what kind of sub(s) I'll be installing in my soon to be, 04 Screw.

This is the best pic I have of the sub box. It's the black thing under the seat.

deep6blue - I agree !

Lack of MP3s especially odd given that they say they have been in the Ranger since 2002!

Add the fact that Ford will not allow you to omit the radio for credit either if you want an after market unit.

Has anyone put an aftermarket stereo in? if so, do you lose the use of volume controls on the steering wheel in the Lariat?

Looks like the only way we're going to be able to get MP3 capability through the stock unit is to order the overhead DVD system. I'm more than sure that the DVD player, like most of them today, will have MP3 capability. Just a thought!

I have my dealer asking FORD today if you can replace a six disc cd unit with an audiophile system, which would include speaker, amp, and subwoofer changes.

I wouldnt know why it couldnt be done, but not sure of cost.

If screwbuilder or someone else knows, please post.

thanks

freddy

From what I understand, you can purchase an aftermarket unit called the PAC SWIX that will allow your steering wheel buttons to work. Check it out
HERE.

just to confirm,

the ford DVD player on the overhead rail will play MP3's. the DVD also has RCA aux inputs for audio and video. (for a sat radio connection to the radio head if you so choose?)

I will try to post a pic of this setup tomorrow
