Question Rear window

Orderd a FX4 SuperCrew in may. I got the sliding rear window but after looking at the options list on kbb I realized that the solid window is the only one of the three with a defroster. Since dealer told me my truck will not be built until late august I still have time to change my order. I like the defroster option but I also like the slider. Would I be better off getting the slider & put a after market defroster in or go with the solid. Any opinions would be appreciated.

With a pickup's vertical rear window, there is rarely a problem with dew and frost on it. Fog inside, I suppose, but the cab is relatively small and the A/C defrost works quickly for all windows inside. I had a slider on my 99 and again on my 03. Never has there been a time I wished for a defroster for my window. I use that slider a lot, though.

I live in New Hampshire and last winter was a real PAIN, lots of snow, lots of ice and lots of ice on the windows.

However the rear window was never really that bad. I have a slider. In the worst cases the little bit of frost on it would melt within 5 minutes or so of having the heat on inside the truck.

If it were my choice between slider or defroster I would go with the slider. If you find that you "really" need a defroster then go with an aftermarket, but I don't think you will really need one.

We get a bit of snow and ice here in NC, mostly just frost. I also have two firebreathing dragons, most of the rest of you call them children, that constantly try to fog the rear window. I have never wished for a rear window defrost. Three minutes at operating temperature clears the rear window. The slider is an option that is used daily.

I'd definately have to vote for the slider. As APT mentioned, condensation and moisture typically isn't a huge issue on the rear glass.... I can imagine scenarios where I'd want one but they are far outweighed by the slider and the nice air flow coming through the cab when it's a pretty day.

Just my $0.02

Good choice the solid rear glass sucks. I wish I had the slider almost everyday.
