Is anyone going to jump on the new F-150 right away or wait a year a so? I'd like to know that way I know whose posts to watch for and read about door cracks and leaking rear window and gaskets and w/e lol.
Don't know about everyone else but I always wayt at least until the second year sometimes the third. All depends on how many problems people have with the first years. Should be interesting to see how these first years are.
I'm planing on getting one as soon as they are available. I ordered and bought a (97) model , and took delivery in Jan. of (96) , and it was a good truck, even though it was one of the first built. I went to the Ft. Worth auto show on Sat. , and was impressed with the s crew there. It was the only (04) at the show, and I guess it came from the Detroit show, because it still had the rear license plate with "detroit" naias on it. The interior really looked nice. I think fomoco knows the quality has to be ok right from the start in todays very competitive market.
I would think that the first models would be high quality, but of course I remember reading of the hood release that broke at a show. I hope they go over the quality again before selling them.

I'll have one right away. I bought a new 97 150 and it was solid from day one. Same from our 03 Navi so far. If I need it the FoMoCo warranty will be there.
Make mine a loaded 18" all silver Lariat (no two tone please)

As soon as the dealer gives the green light on orders, I'm there!!
It's already been published that the truck is going to cost about $1000.00 more to make the first year so what do you think they are going to do? Cost reduct it
Anyways, they have way to much to lose, so you will see a good qualty vehicle when it hits the road

I am a manufacturing engineer and know how reality works in a manufacturing environment. There are a lot of bugs and unforseen problems worked out in the first year (from design and manufacturing processes) - think of the exhaust pipe in front of the tire in the 97 models that caused the passenger side wheel to tarnish!
Ford may do a good job at their own plants, but you have to remember all of the subcontractors that are supplying brand new parts on a ramp up production schedule. Unforeseen quality problems will occur.
But, I have own two Fords -
83 Ranger built in August of 82 (brand new model, replaced the Courier) that has 165,000 miles on the original motor and still runs good. I have noticed some problems with it that were addressed in the 84 and 85 models. My dad had an 85, it was fun to compare the differences and similarities of the problems. And 83 was the only year that the manual transmission was a 4 speed, 84 and newer have 5 speeds).
99 F150 built in March of 99 (first Supercab model to get four doors) - 38,000 trouble free miles, and luckily no door cracks (yet).
For me, I will wait until the wife has a new explorer, then I will take a look at getting a new F150 - hopefully about 2006 with a 5.4 with 6 speed manual transmission! Heck by 2006, maybe I will just buy a Superduty with a V10, 6 speed manual and crew cab with 8' box. Then I would have to buy a bigger garage!

I will (oh yes) be the first in San Jose, Ca to buy one. Make mine a Dark Blue XLT SuperCab with the 4.6 V8. I've been waiting for the last 3 years and dropping $$$ into my '89 Ranger to keep it alive until the 2004's come out. I want mine NOW!
