Donor trucks for 4.6L to fit 98 F-150

1998 Ford F-150 XLT Super Cab 4.6L 281CI Triton V8 Automatic 4R70W 2WD

I need a engine from the salvage yard and wanted the easiest direct swap, so 4.6L for a 4.6L. What are my options? It's cold out and I'd like to have as little as possible to change to get it to fit and I would like to know how new of a vehicle I could look for to get one too.

I *believe* that 1997-2000 is a direct swap, 2001 and later are adaptable.

From my reckoning, I believe it's 1997-1999. But like glc said, it's doable with a newer motor, you just need to swap more over.

The reason I said to 2000 is they went to PI heads in 2001 on the 4.6. I don't know which year they switched from a coolant temp sensor to a head temp sensor.

Anything other than 1997-2000 F-150's?
Maybe F-250's?
Explorers?
Expeditions?
others?

1997 and later F250 light duty is the same as a F150, same body, just a beefed up chassis. Most of those had 5.4's. Superdutys never used the 4.6. Expeditions should work, but Explorers and cars won't. Vans might.

2002-2010 Explorers had the 4.6 as an option over the 4.0 V6. Last year of the 5.0 was 2001.

I was referring to the same year range for emissions purposes. Once you start grafting something not even close with an engine a decade newer, you run into more complications.

Look @ patmans build
