MAF question
Yes, I finally solved that problem, (I think).
I could not check the return line because I had no way to do it. I gave a lot of thought to the problem and decided the problem must be the fuel pump as indicated by the dealership, and went that route.
Ordered a new Motorcraft pump from RockAuto and took it to the dealership to install. They put the new pump in and it only took them an hour. I didn't see any way for me to do it because I have no helpers.
Sadly, it did not solve my problem ! The codes came back.
I went back to the dealership and told them the story and they took it in for another diagnostic. After about 3 hours, they came out and said they found the real problem. It was the MAF !
Apparently, it was reporting a bad barometric pressure reading. It's no wonder I couldn't find the problem. My earlier testing on the MAF did not include that item. Nor did the dealership test for it. They replaced the MAF and there was no additional cost.
Later I learned from others that whenever they come across a Ford with those codes, the first thing they check is the MAF barometric signals. Apparently it is not uncommon.
Truck ran fine for a year or so then the codes came back !!!. It just so happened I also had a problem with my turn signals not working right and had to replace the relay. That took a while so I had the battery disconnected for 2-3 hours. After reconnecting battery, the codes disappeared, and haven't come back
Been about 2 months.
Not sure what happened but I suspect the codes were caused by allowing the truck to warm up in the driveway this winter. Just my guess,...
Stay tuned, the saga will continue I'm sure ...LOL
