steering stabilizer

not sure if this should be here or the suspension forum

anyways, what are everyone's thoughts on a steering stabilizer?

2001 xlt, 4" lift, some torsion bar crank as well

I don't think my rod ends, or my bjs are bad, I just still seem to get some wobble at some speeds while driving, usually around like the 40mph zone.... like if I hit a dot in the road, the truck feels like it wanders back and forth for a bit....

A steering stabilizer will defiantly help out on things like bump steer but a "wobble" is usually caused by a bad suspension/steering part or unbalanced tire.

I would take a look at your sway bar end links. The bushings wear out and cause the front end to feel less stable.

Everything is tight, TREs and BJs were recently greased. That is why I can't figure out what it is. Unless it is just the fact I have 35" tires and a 4" "dropdown" lift. Tires are Geolandar A/T-S

From what I've read, the need starts at just about the lift/tire combo you have. It certainly won't hurt. I've actually been thinking of adding
THIS ONE THIS ONE
to my truck since I drive on washboard gravel roads so much.

so, I was thinking about this, I watched a video, where someone said it has to be installed at 16" this got me thinking, would this measurement be different because I am lifted?

while I definitely have more pressing issues to deal with atm, I am curious if anyone here with a lifted truck has put on a steering stabilizer yet

Ha, I did find this necropost, but no pics or better description form the OP and it's 15 years old and a 4x2

It's funny you mention bump steer. My '07 Compass has had it since it was new. More so when I replace the entire front end. It kind of levels off after about 10k, but it's annoying. I even tried all different brands of suspension components... from OEM, to Moog, to driveworks, etc.

In comparison my '00 Dodge Dakota doesn't budge and my '07 F150 is in between. Depending on the pothole, whether or not it will give me bump steer.

I get it all over the place, but 35s probably isn't helping much, and not sure, but my mismatched rear right wheel might also be contributing to it.....

35's is a lot of rotating mass going down the road.

I am using the Fabtech steering stabilizer with a Fabtech 6" suspension lift, and 35" tires. It is a wear item. They don't last forever. The shocks will eventually blow. The rubber bushings break apart. I am on my second set, and ready to order a third set. I wish that they were more durable.

Make sure that you get a set which is compatible with your lift kit components.

I don't even know what lift my truck has. It is a dropdrown lift, probably 4" and is red in color. Red is usually Rancho, but who knows.... maybe Skyjacker?
