Gas Milage in 01' F150

Getting 19 MPG in my new used F150 and I'm very pleased.I get about the same in my Tacoma...lol. 5.4v8 & 4x4
It goes down towing a utility trailer but not down to 8-10 like some folks get.

Did I just totally luck out on this great almost new used truck or what?

I don't check mine very often but i checked it a couple of times driving 800 miles from Wilm, NC to Homestead, FL mostly on the interstate with the cruise set on 80 and it gets 16 mpg driving those speeds.

That's great mpg, but check you odemeter for accuracy. If your tires are shorter than the original and the computer was not recalibrated, it will show better tan you are actually getting.

I've never seen 19 MPG, or 18, or 17. Even with 100% highway miles on a tank, totally babying the throttle it to maximize MPG only returned 16.8- probably more like 17.5 when you consider I had slightly oversize tires. Must be dead flat and 55 MPH non-stop to get that kind of mileage.

'00 4x4, 3.55 gears, 5.4L.

Well flat on the mesas or the valleys, but 7k el. SW NM is high.Mostly. Very rugged otherwise.Up& down.
35mph or so on the gravel/dirt roads to the few paved then mostly 60.75 on interstate, maybe 80 if flow is.
Local guy with same truck ,more miles gets 17-18 he said with no head wind. Most less.

My Superchips helped with the gas mileage a little as well as a big improvement in the throttle response.
I did check mine twice riding from Homestead, FL to Key West and around Key West and back. the highway is a mix of speed limits of 45 to 55 with numerous stop lights and about 25 miles of mad dashes in the passing zones across the swamp between Homestead and Key Largo. My truck got 17.4 mpg both times.

amazing what kind of mileage people can get if they don't modify their vehicle with bigger tires and lifts.

I've had 20mpg in my 4x4 a few times with over 300k miles on the original engine & transmission.

I didn't think I was crazy...lol.
I hear ya on the lift stuff, can't understand it.
Saw a nice old 65' yesterday like one of my old ones, way jacked up and micky's on it and guy had no more ground clearance than I did with stock. Sacrilige if you ask me...lol.
Now I know the guys that started the Baja 500 back in the day and many pro racers. But it's kinda a up to who ever and what ever blows your skirt up.

I'm not a racer and like clean stock trucks that work. My Tacoma looks like a 2wd and I go everywhere in that.

Like your truck...lol
Look's exactly like mine except mine is slightly higher with the Off Road/Lariat package, different wheels an all.

Yeah, when I had my truck at stock 4x4 height, I couldn't get any better gas mileage than 17mpg, but as soon as I lowered it, it went up 1-2mpg.

On the freeway I get 15-16 on average. I have large tires but the truck is all stock pretty much otherwise.
