Nothing on the keys. I took everything off the key ring when I started to have the problem. If I lock the truck and use just the key to open the door and try and start the truck it will go into theft mode honking the horn and fast blinking theft light.

Honking the horn? That's indicative of an aftermarket alarm system, the standard PATS system doesn't do that.

In addition, look for:

1> Stickers under the hood or on the driver's window or door referring to a security or other system.

2> Hood pin switch.

3> Extra control module and wiring cobbled in up under the dash in the near vicinity of the steering column.

If you find an extra control module, it will have something on it for identification.

I can't specifically think of what could have gone wrong during the odometer repair, but it sure seems related. Any chance you unplugged the key antenna goodie in the steering column? Even so, it seems like PATS is unrelated to this issue. I'd look for unplugged stuff under the dash in the areas where you worked.

If not, I would take it to a dealer. Talk with the Service Advisor and tell them exactly what's going on and sign an initial diag estimate so if they go over it, you won't have to pay more. Ask if the diag is waived if you go through with the repair. I hope this helps...

I took the dash back apart when I noticed the problem, and checked all the connections. It looks like it will be a trip to the dealer. I do have a module attached to the steering column, but has the Ford logo on it. Thanks for all the help.

Or, you could just live with it since it seems to start and run fine as long as you unlock the door with the key fob or the door keypad.
