Commonality: Device = SCT flash programmer; Calibrations = Custom

Good luck - lots to read, lots of research to do and even more questions to ask.... and tossing in a 'hello', 'please' and 'thank-you' wouldn't hurt either; yer one fer three so far!

Thanks for the welcome.

I guess what im asking is what brand "programmers" have people had the best results with? Edge, DiabloSport, SCT, Hypertech and Superchips? Looking for a "canned" tune. Something I can change to help when towing trailer to the desert, then be able to reset to a little better than stock street ride (better mpg, power, I know I ask a lot) the rest of the time. One of my customers has the SCT unit and swears by it. I'm looking for people's real world results with these products.

Only Mods as of yet are AEM CAI, Magna flow Catback,

^^^ That would be me. SCT guy going on 10 years.

You can get fully custom tuning for very littel more than the price of a dead-end canned tuner like an Edge CS ( and for far less than a canned CTS).

Example - an SCT Xcal3 frorm one of the above folks I linked to is less than $400 and includes 3 (or more) fully custom tunes of your choice. F'rinstance a dedicated Tow tune, a perf tune, a 'race' tune and anything in between. For any combinations of octane. Consult with one or more of those folks for further details - more info in the sites as well.

The results are far better than canned so I would never recommend limiting yerself in this way.

As fer mileage - sorry - yer right foot, condition of yer truck and what yer doing with it, environment, gas quality, etc, all will play a much larger role than any alleged mileage increases from a programmer - so Do Not Count on it as justification.

Perf gains however, are immediately tangible as is vastly improved shifting and driveability, more grunt for towing .... and so on.

I don't know why we post stickies...

cherries refuse to read 'em

anyway, FNG SCT is the way to go:

#1 thier devices can be custom tuned as canned tunes are a pure waste of money (Edge, Superchips, hypertech are canned)

#2 they have a larger following, in case you choose poorly when it comes to a tuner

yeah the little research I've had time to do has lead me to find a lot of people raving about the SCT. Especially for perf & Towing. As far as MPG that's why I have the DD (beater) civic. cause no matter what u do to these trucks u never gonna beat 30+ mpg.

Hi.

At the top of each forum one or more useful threads are 'stuck' - i.e. they never leave the top of the hierarchy.

The one I linked to in my initial response is one such - it's at the top of the Chips & Programmin' forum.

Cheers

Roger that. I for one, never said you didn't.

There is, for certain, a LOT to absorb. It really is beneficial to contact a few of the tunin' fellers at those businesses and chat about yer goals. And search for / read some of the reviews in the 'Chips' forum -there have been many over the years...

Fer some reason almost all of 'em are named Mike

I haven't tried other tunes so I don't know about them. I bought a Superchips unit from a forum member and I am really pleased with it. I estimate a 20hp increase and the throttle response is much improved. The gas mileage is a little better too. I have no complaints. It came with 3 tunes, a high octane tune, 87 octane tune, and a towing tune that uses high octane. I chose the 87 octane tune. It allows the rear tire diameter to be changed for the speedometer. I left the trans alone after trying the trans tune. And I left the shift points the same as factory after trying higher shift points. No sense in winding up a low rpm performer like a 2v 5.4 triton.

Hands down SCT for the win! Feel free to check out this thread and the pics from my album for proven dyno proof. Even though we have different engines, ya just can't beat real world experiences, dyno numbers, and proof! https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ke-5-star.html

It's not the device, it's the tuner that's writing the tunes for the device.
