Back in a F150

Well after a 3 year hiatus I have finally found another F150. I found a 99 4x4 SC/SB 4.6 5spd with 99,xxx miles. I always wanted a 5spd F150 and have been attached to

the 97-03 body style. The bad part is its slightly wrecked I picked the truck up on Friday, got it drove it off the trailer and started the dis-assembly. The only reason

I bought the truck is I still have my 98 EC/SB that finally bit the dust at 181,000 and has sat since 2010. It was pulled into a field about 2 years ago and the grass just

destroyed the cab, bed, and frame. So on Saturday evening I tore into it. I'm ready to start putting my "new" truck back together and hope that I can finish it

over the next couple weeks.

I love the 97-03 body style too, but dang man that one doesn't have much body left!

Finally got around to making some good progress this weekend. The wreck destroyed the radiator, washer tank, battery tray, and the vacuum canisters. I

have all those out and of my 98 and some swapped over. I was able to weld the driver side completely and install the hood and driver fender. I got the

passenger side lined up and one plate welded in and some of the panel welded together. I have 3 more plates to add and that will complete the passenger

side. It lines up pretty good, I think I will have to elongate a couple fender holes but for the most part it lines up pretty good. I have lots of welding and

fabrication expertise, but never any "body" work like this. It has been pretty easy to this point, I have about 15 hours in the work so far. Including tearing

my 98 apart to get what I need for this 99. Hopefully the next week will permit a few hours to get my other plates cut and welded in. I'm working on a

paved driveway with nothing but hand tools, a small Miller MIG, a cutoff wheel, electric saw, and ratchet straps to do the pulling and pushing of cab

alignment.

Moar progress this weekend. I was able to finish the passenger side welding. I only lack attaching the "inner fender" back to the firewall. I won a set of expy leather

buckets on fleabay, and debating on either "adapting"(hacking all to $h!t) my expy center console to fit a 5spd and floor shift 4x4 or getting a 150 console.

Made more progress over the holiday, but also had time to kill which means I spent money on more parts I found a set of FX4 wheels on fleabay, and I ordered a set

of Ranchos a while back. When Copart was hauling my truck around they ran the forks on the loader through both rear shocks so they needed replaced. I still plan on

new carpet and headliner so I'm a long way from done but making progress. The biggest disappointment is that I think the color of the hood and fenders is off a shade, it

just doesn't match the way I hoped it would Got my expy buckets here but not installing till I decide on the carpet. They are tan, its a grey interior now and I want

black Don't know exactly what to do yet but I'll just claim colorblind if its ugly. Also still looking for a 99-04 front end which is why the bumper isn't tight, I just have it

hanging. I found a local yard that has "alot" they said of 99 up bumpers so just gotta find time to go.

that's a keeper truck for sure! Mine is one of 2 XLT extended cab 4x4s with a 5 speed manual that I know of. The single cabbies with a 5 speed are rare too. congrats. Keep us posted

Been busy for a while. Got the truck on the road a couple weeks ago. When I got the wheels and opened the boxes I could tell they were 5x4.5 off a explorer so I still

don't have FX4 wheels. I still need to get the shocks on it, I have new headliner fabric and the board out and clean but haven't had time to fix it. Also still need to fix

the sway bar endlinks and get a fan controller setup for the Mark VIII fan, just running a clutch fan with no shroud currently. I noticed when I put my snow wheels/tires

on it will need pads and rotors soon so I'll add that to the list. Overall I enjoy the truck, it runs and drives good. Other than the slight paint mismatch you would never

know it was wrecked.
