2001 f150 won't start (I know. Another one!)
Didn't check fuses to ecm. Wouldn't a powerless ecm prevent turning over at all?
I'm gonna change the fuel filter tonight after work, and then the fuel pump if the filter doesn't work

Having the same issue with my 02 Supercrew, has been more of a pain than a problem until today, had to walk home in the freezing cold (snow in TX, go figure). Anyway, I had no pressure at the rails, nothing spitting out of the relief valve, no blown fuses. After got a ride back to the truck gave it one last shot before I called the tow truck and it started on the third crank. I sure would like to hear what you change and if it fixes it.
Alright.
Changed the fuel filter today. Turned over and sputtered the first few tries, then back to cranking only. Tried giving her a little throttle when it was sputtering/cranking with no luck.
Still no pressure at the rails, even when I went key-on 4 or 5 times to try to 'prime' the fuel lines.
Why would it sputter a little? Never did that the past few days since I've been dealing with it.
What fuse do I check for the ECM?

Yeah. It sucked butt to lay out in the snow today to do the fuel filter. I'm gonna tow it to my buddys shop tomorrow and get into it. He knows a little more about this stuff than I do (Master ASE for the past 20plus years)
I will report back once it's running again and post what solved my problem!

Not running yet, but...
It is def the fuel pump. Diag tools show relays all working and sending the correct signals, just no response from the pump...She's dead. R.I.P.
Gonna change it Monday and get this pig back on the road!!
I wanna thank the members here. I have very little advice, if anything, to offer to members asking questions. This is not my specialty by any means. Video game system mods/hacks...another story.
But if I ever have another problem with my truck, this will be the FIRST place I check.
You guys are great!!

Try replacing this part from the picture below or take out the plugs from it that cover the screws and make them touch with a screw driver while you got the key in it should start sometimes they over heat and dont work that well what happen to m and i replaced it cost me 60 for the part simple fix i tough it was fuel bump even my key or my alarm but it was a simple fix. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...IkQ4whQ3PlM.12

Other than that, pressure checks. Thorough checks @ various rpm ranges. That little tube on the pump side likes to split. The pump can pick up the slack to a certain point and slowly begin to fail here and there. The giveaway is peculiar pressure readings thru the rpm range.
Tapped all the way end-to-end with a rubber mallet a couple of times. Turned the ignition on for three seconds, three times, and the thing started up without pause. I am extremely happy my 1999 F-150 with 194K started.
thanks
This actually worked for me. I'm sure the look on my face was funny to see since my son began laughing at me stating I looked in shock.

The pumps close to failing completely. You hammer the tank bottom IF keyed to run and the pump fails to charge the lines. Line charge can always be heard with the window down which makes it easy to determine this sort of pump problem.
Anyway, -better pick up a pump and replace the existing. Chances are, you don't have long. That hammering action won't last long. Make sure you get the replacement filter sock with the new pump purchase. They don't always come with these and it's important to replace that sock.
Sounds like a faulty pump relay. They can fool yuh. Best way to check a relay is to feel it up. If it's the slightest bit warm, -it's faulty. It'll fool yuh any other way checked. Most often, relays go out intermittently, so they can show as "good" thru diagnostics. That's why you have to feel them up, -don't play their game lol. The FP relays have been known to get flaky.

Happened again this morning, been sitting for a week while we were gone. Started yesterday and again this morning when cold. Dropped the kids off and it wouldn't start. Funny thing this time was it was idling really funny this morning when it started, I figured it was just cold, but the CIL came on at the school. Checked it when it wouldn't start and got two misfire codes.
Switched the relays-nothing. Checked the terminal connections coming off the battery-nothing. Everytime I turned to "on", heard the click of the pump charging, at least I thought. Climbed underneath and gave the tank a couple of raps with a rubber mallet and she started right up. Now, how hard is the fuel pump to replace. I'm sitting on a full tank of gas now. Do I have to drop the tank.
