I realize this is quite the thread resurrection, but just curious if any thing ever came of this project.

A guy at local autoparts store today was talking about swapping a 302 into a late 90's F150 and mating it to an ATX(?) transmission. Listening to that is what caused me to search this topic.

Without knowing the specific detail, I can guarantee he will not bolt it up to a trans that had a 4.6 or 5.4L bolted to it from 97 upward..

Can't give anymore details other than my previous post. It was just a conversation and I chimed in that I had one (99). While my engine is well North of 300K miles I haven't decided what to do with it when it goes. Would love to put a diesel in it but that is for a different thread. (I had a 95 F350 PSD w/ 327K when she turned into a 7.3L oil pump).

I've been reading and researching about swaps and I bought a 99 f150 with the 4.2 v6 5 speed and the motor took a crap on me so now I'm thinking of swapping a 5.0 out of 95 f150 into my truck. I want to keep my tranny tho so will the 5.0 bolt up to my 5speed tranny and I know I will have to change the wireing harness and are the motor mounts the same? Any help is appreciated

Yes, the 4.2 and 5.0 both have the Windsor bellhousing pattern, so your only issue is going to be electronics. Don't know about the motor mounts though.

Have you throught about the big difference between the operating systems used in both applications?
You not only have the swap mechanics to contend with but the completely different operating system, dash gauges and other items.
IMHO you have a bigger job than just replacing the V6 with a rebuilt.
At least you would not have to contend with all the hassle of a swap.
Better rethink this one.
If you have Emissions inspection to deal with, don't do it
Good luck.

While I don't homer for that kind of swap (a '95 F150 5.0 = 195-205 horsepower) just because of such little gain (may as well try a Lightning 5.4 swap for kicks), I would actually recommend finding a '99 model Exploder with a 5.0 and swap that in place. A little bit more power in that package and it uses coil packs just as the 4.6 used that year. Might be a bit less hacking/splicing on the wiring harness to deal with.
