V6 Fuel Mileage
V6 Fuel Mileage
Ok folks need some help from those with v6s. I am looking at a 1999 XL Extended cab short bed, auto 4.2l for my 16 year old daughter. The only question is fuel mileage. What is everyone seeing real world for mileage out of this combination?
On my 1997 XLT, I used to see 15-17mpg avg. That was when my odometer worked and I calculated it by hand. I'm interested to see what the Torque Pro Android app will tell me. The OBD II Bluetooth connector will be here Friday.
If your looking for mileage, don't buy a truck.

15 should be very doable for you.
I get mid 15's to low 17's mixed driving on a truck that is loaded close to it's weight limit. Plus I have over 200k miles on it.
When I empty it and hit the highway it gets about 20ish.
Mine's a 2wd scab that is box stock.

Tracked my old truck's MPG for the last 3 years (almost to the day) before it was totaled. This was a mix of city and highway majority of the time. Saw as high as 20-21 @65-70, and as low as 12 driving hard around town. The graph accounts for all fill ups, both complete/full refills and partial refills.
The green and red dotted lines denote the EPA City/Hwy estimates of the truck when new. I stay pretty well in that region.

Very nice chart, Derek. I'm sure 90% of V6s fall between those lines.
