V6 Fuel Mileage
For him, sure. But what about for a 16 year old who's driving a truck that doesn't want to go fast to begin with?
I can't speak for her, but when I was 16, the last thing I ever thought about were mpgs. Sure, gas was under $1 a gallon at that point, but it didn't matter.
I personally do not believe an F150 is a good vehicle for a 16 year old, just voicing my opinion. Plus, I do not think she'd always drive it like an old lady, therefore getting poor mpgs.

She actuallty drives like a little old lady. We haev to consatntly remind her spped up to teh speed limit.
After discussing it we are going to pass on the truck. While being two wheel drive and fairly low, the length of an extended cab worries us. I think the front woudl be OK, but I think she might forget about the 10 or 12 feet behind her. I think we may ahev found a Mazda Tribute to look at.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

That I wonder what it would've looked like were I able to include the first 5 years of owning it.

Mustang one should look a little better.
Well said.

I've had the 4.2 and now have a 4.6. The EPA numbers are very similar but I can tell you I regularly saw 20 mpg hwy and occasionally 22 mpg with the 4.2. But with the 4.6, that "occasionally" number is 20 mpg hwy with 18 mpg hwy being pretty normal :/
And the 4.2 probably moved my reg cab better than my 4.6 moves my super cab, although the V8 has a tad bit more low end grunt.

I am getting 16-18 with my 2001 4.2l supercab. If I was a teenager it would be more like 14-16.
When my son and daughter got their drivers licenses in the 90's, he got a 1987 Ford Ranger 4cyl manual stick (25mpg) and she got a 1988 Ford EXP 4cly stick (30-40mpg). Sure wish I still had that 2 seater EXP- on a good day it hit 45mpg.

QUOTE=2008_XL;4887486]Good choice. I personally feel a 16 year old simply doesn't need a vehicle of that size. Sure, it may come in handy if you need it, but if not, it's simply going to be a waste of gas even if she does drive it like an old lady. compared to a car, these trucks are not good on gas.[/QUOTE]
No truck is "good" on gas
