Broken cpu?

I was driving home from work one night and givin the truck was low on gas it started acting like it was out of gas and turned off mid driving, i rolled it to a gas station and gased it up and the engine would turn over but just not fully cetch.. the gas made no diffrence, had a moble mechanic come look at it and he tested a bunch of different things and he came to the conclusion that my cpu is bad, by unpluging things and doing a test on the cpu and it was still showing nothing was wrong. Does this sound right and if it is, what am i looking at to get it fixed approximately? He says i cannot get a new computer for it i have to get the same one fixed at a dealership.

You gave no info on fuel pressure testing!
Why not, when fuel is involved?
Do you hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds at a 'key-on'?
Each time you turn the key to run, it starts the fuel pump. This will build fuel pressure in the fuel rails.
Check the crash sensor behind the passenger side kick panel for being tripped.
Start with these answers then go on depending on what you observe.
Are you sure the mech. knew what he is looking for?
Good luck.

Are you sure he said CPU and not CPS?

A bad Crank Position Sensor could cause the issues you have. Couple that with a burned cigar lighter fuse and you won't get any codes showing.

Just throwing that one out there.

97-03 doesn't have a FPDM.

I'd get a fuel pressure gauge and test it just to be sure. PCM's rarely fail in these trucks. Make sure the fuel pressure is in the correct specification. From the way its being described I think it just might be the fuel filter..

These trucks don't have a CPU

That's why you can't re-boot them.

Just throwing that one out there.

I'm betting on CPS. I had that problem once. It seems to be common in the V6s

I agree. If they had cpu's, they would want an allowance and free time.
