2001 supercrew ring and pinion swap
1500 @ 60 mph sounds about right. I think what J-brew was saying is that you don't want to go much over 1900rpm on the highway because your fuel milage will suffer. And unless you are going to increase your tire size drasticly like going from a 32" to a 35" tire you might not need to regear like Str8t said. You dont tow a great deal but you still tow. With that being said a lower gear ratio say a 4.10 or a 4.30 will wake your truck up in the city and might actually increase your fuel milage, you will probably loss some on the highway though. You might want to try a custom tuner first a bit less money and may give you just what you are looking for. Good luck
Mine cruises at 1900 @ 70mph, I have 3.73 gears with a 4.6. My truck sux trying to tow anything over about 1200lbs until I get on flat terrain which is kinda hard here in east Texas...lol

the reason i said i wouldnt regear is becuase he never mentioned bigger tires later on, never said anything about lack of performance, he drives on the highway mostly so low rpms are key.
not to mention i drove on 35's with 3.55 gears for almost 4 years and could still pull 15MPG.
but if OP wants new gears, i have a break down of his RPM's at 60MPH
4.10's=1750
4.30's=1840
4.56's=1950
pick your poison....
Mileage is usually close to 16 empty, except on the turnpike going across Ohio. It's flat for one thing and speeds on the pike are about 10 mph less. Could get close to 20 mpg cruising just over the limit empty. No other state tho, just Ohio. PA forget it lol.

My opinion anyway.
4,10s with those tires should put him at about 2100, at 70 mph. I just regeared my expd to 4,10s. Just got them broken in so I haven't been able to run highway with cruise. Around town mpgs are up about 1 TO 2 mpg. I am running 285_70_17s,so almost size tire as op.
Sorry, I'm a little stuck... So do i regear?
Also, you guys mentioned a 5four, what do you think about a swap with a Harley Davidson supercharged 5four? Is it easy to do? And what do I need to do it?
You've opened a can of worms now.
Just about everyone in here will tell you to swap to a 5.4 and supercharging will be iceing
I'm going to have to let others talk you through the swap though. You might want to pose your question about the swap to the supercharge forum, twinscrewed, fatherford, ironsin, str8t, tarajarme and several others are more than willing to help and a couple of those guys are making crazy power. Good luck and keep us posted
