2001 supercrew ring and pinion swap

I currently have 3.55's and I'm running 285/75/16's. I tow about 4 times a year and the rest is daily driving. My question is, should I do a ring and pinion swap? If so, what ratio?

Well since you also have a thread concrening a lift. I was originally going to suggest 4.10 gears but 4.56 would probably be better especially if you are 4x4

Maybe go with 4.30 gears for in between should be able to run any tire up to a 35's, but J-brew has more knowledge than me so I would go with his advice. Wish I could get 4.30's for my truck

See what your RPM's are at cruising speeds, -EMPTY, not hauling anything and in OD. Around 1900 is a good max. More than that and it's going suck quite a bit more fuel.

Yea, I agree, -at least 4:10's w/33's IMO.

Thanks for the compliment, but I'm not running that set up, never have actually. Yea, maybe something in between 4:10's and 4:56's. I would try to keep it around 1900 rpm's tho, if it was my dd. So the mileage won't get to ridicules lol.

4.10s with 31-33's would be a good combo if you tow. However if you plan to go to bigger tires like 35s I'd recommend 4.56's.

If you're lifting and putting 35's on it I would get 4:56 gears. 4:56 will def help that the 4.6L get those tires moving. If using 33 inch get the 4:30's. I had 35's on my old truck with the 5.4 and 4:56 gears and loved it!

If that's your normal cruising rpms, - yea , plenty of room for taller gears. With 3:55's I'm @ 1900 rpms on cruise. But I cruise @ 78-79 mph.

Yea well, - that's because the 4six would be at the curb with a SC 5four taking it's place... I know.
