So my 1997 4.6 F150 has good power but i want more. i was thinking injectors, cold air intake, headers and exhaust, but other then that i'm lost? i have 33s and i can turn em pretty easy! the other day i race my buddy in an 03 f150 fx4 5.4 ext cab and barely beat him then i realized i need more power! so any ideas comments? also thoughts on a 3in body with a leveling kit for a total of 5 in of lift, and a set of 35s? im trying to make it look and run as best as possible im thinking of puttin close to 2500-3000 in it over summer(doing all the work by myself well my buddys will help) but any ideas?

 

4x4 or 4x2?

Skip the cold air intake, just do the gotts mod. Look it up on here.

But if you want real power, just do a supercharger. Bolt on's will only give you so much and a lot of that won't even really be usable without doing a custom tune.

 

What all would i have to do for that? like a lot of internal work? would a lighting supercharger work? or would a turbo be my best option? and its 4x4 and ok ill look that up

 

That's not really my area but I'm sure someone will chime in with more details on it.

And since your 4x4, skip the leveling kit and just crank your torsion bars for free, all it'll cost you is an alignment. Those leveling kits will destroy your front end.

 

Electric fans, CHIP/TUNER!!, supercharger (pricey), Gotts mod(instead of intake), hi-flow cats, long tube headers, true dual exhaust with hi-flow mufflers and X-pipe, i dont know what else there is that is bolt on, but if you really want to be serious, you can get new cams, ported heads, cylinders bored.

About the supercharger, there is lots of kits out there, best to find second hand, as for turbos, its a little more pricey and makes more power, but they are less common to find kits for f150's. Also you will need to "adapt" you engine such as running oil lines.

 

Yes. Gotts mod is better than intake because you dont have to dink around with your MAF, and its super cheap... And sounds pretty good.

I would look at this! This is a killer deal and will add huge amounts of power! Don't use the procharger boost a pump or the FMU. Just buy this kit, get a 255LPH fuel pump, and get it dyno tuned.

E fans are not hard. The only specialty tool you need is something to remove your fan. Then it bolts on, run some wires, and a temperature probe, and thats about it.

 

Lightning SC wont work since the 5.4 blocks are taller than the 4.6 blocks. you could get adapters, but i would just swap in a 5.4 if you really want to go for it.

 

He could always opt for something from the 4.6l mustangs. Not sure how big of a chore that would be. But slightly easier then swapping a 5.4 in if he doesnt need too i would assume.

 

well, the engine bay is different and everything so it would be a bid ordeal. the intake for the mustang is on the passenger side and the intake for the f150 is on the drivers side. plus they are both routed a different way so if he wanted to custom fab the intake and beat up his firewall, im sure he could get it to fit!

 

lol well over summer i really wanted to swap in the 5.4 but my uncle wouldn't let me(used his garage, lift, tools, ect) im not wating a race truck just a lil gitty up. im thinking headers, of course exhaust. a chip the gotts mod. and maybe electric fans and someone told me about doing something with my knock sensor and a thermostat? idk but yeah a 01 5.4 would be the best!!
