Swapping in aftermarket gauges

I have a 2001 f150. I'm wanting to swap in some autometer aftermarket gauges but from what I heard its impossible to do without the stock instrument cluster. How true is this and is there anyway around it?

The problem that you are going to have is that the circuit board for the instrument cluster is an integral part of the PATS system on these trucks, without it the truck wont even start. That is unless you scrap the entire PATS system and go with an entire custom ignition system or one out of a truck without the PATS system. Autometer did make a cluster for the 99-03 trucks. ya thats what I thought. Hmm well any advice as to how to go with one without the pats installed as you mentioned?

no I am but I would like to not run them and go with some autometer gauges or maybe even a racepack

Are you talking about something you would piece together yourself? Bc autometer does make a cluster for our trucks.

yes thats exactly what I would like to do. probably something along the lines of the phantom II gauges.
