Project "Big Red"

G'day!

This is my 2000 F150 Flareside XL Extended Cab. It has a 4.2L V6 in it with roughly 350,000KM. So far everything is stock. I plan on doing the following:
  • Smoked out LED tail-lights and 3rd brake light
  • Smoked out halo projector headlights
  • Paint grill black
  • Tint rear windows 5%
  • Paint all chrome pieces red/touch up paint flaws
  • Re-do gauge lighting cherry red
  • Put 285/70/R16 knobby all season tires on rear
  • Put 245/70/R16 all season basic tires on front
  • Add Ford Built Tough Mudflaps on rear

That's it for now. I'm open to any suggestions! Also if anyone knows a good spot to purchase parts and accessories let me know, I'm located in Canada. I'm looking for Ford Built Tough front floor mats, I have the rear utility ones for the back floor.

Here's some pictures:

That's it for now! I'll be posting some interior ones once I get it cleaned up a bit.

By the way photos were taken with my iPhone 4. I'm also looking for suggestions for an exhaust setup, if anyone has any ideas feel free to post 'em up.

When I read the title "big red" I thought I was going to see a lifted truck in progress..

I say drop it on 20's, paint the door handles, front grill, mirrors, bumper top pad and valance the body color and call it "lil red"

When you go for 285s lets say, do they fit fine on the stock rim? That's what I have right now and I like the stock rims so I plan on keeping them. I wanna go with 285s for the back and 245s for the front.

IMO, mismatched tires look RETARDED.
As far as your lights go, please do not go with those cheapo ebay projectors. They SUCK.

What kind of budget are you on? If it is relatively low, do you what you think will look good, but IMO, i'd save my money and go with rims AND tires, instead of just tires, and again, a drop would look good. As for exhaust, (unless you have a big budget) leave it and just slap on a borla or magnapack, and save your money for RIMS. And TBH, the stock rims are ugly. I got the same ones.

Yea. With big wide tires on the back, and skinnier tires on the front, it looks cool. Like a muscle car. Haha. But id go with rims, even if their cheap, just to make look even better than it does.

Yeah it's cool and all if you're going for that muscle truck look, but from the sounds of it he's going with larger aggressive offroad tires on the back and street tires on the front. What is so cool about that?

Definitely don't get the ebay projectors, not worth it for them. As for tires, if you really wanna mismatch tread patterns like that at least get the same size tires. You can't really get a muscle truck look with off-road tires anyways. And if you do mismatch the front and back like that, you'll never be able to rotate them.

I'm not getting eBay projectors, the boys around here order their parts from Andy Auto Sport and I've seen the quality products they give you, they're great and pretty cheap. So I'm going with the smoked out projector headlights, smoked out taillights and 3rd brake light which are LED.

As for the tires, I think wider tires would look better on the back as its a flare side, bit wider. I like the look of the skinnier tires on the front now.

My budget isn't low, im just adding here and there. The front tires need replaced, not sure if they'll be any good this winter, I'm thinking I should just save up and buy 4 brand new tires all the same but 2 of them wider for the back?

It's your call on the tires, personally I wouldn't run tires that were two different sizes, because you can't rotate them.

And those are ebay projectors, hop on ebay and look at what they sell projector wise all the same things as that Andy's Auto Sports sells. Save your money and a do a retrofit the right way with a set of real projectors, but I'm telling you those pre-made chineese ones aren't good, I had less output with them than I did stock housings for the 2 months I had them. And stay away from one piece headlights, they don't fit and you'll end up losing one going down the road.
