Should I Lose the Bug Deflector?

When I first bought my truck, second hand, back in '03, it had the bug deflector on it, and I just lived with it on there. Now I'm thinking I might pull it off. What do you think?

That's a good lookin truck. If the bug deflector has no function (your hood is so high that rocks etc. won't reach it) then maybe it's fine without it.

I sorta like it. I had one on mine before I got my cobra hood. They also look good without though. It's all just what you like personally. Your truck looks absolutely killer!!! I would leave it though on your truck.

On a side note: Would you go with the wheel to wheel nfabs if you were gonna do it again?? I am gonna be getting some here and thinking of going with the cab length only like yours.

Yea I like the bug deflector on there, it helps give some contrast to the all white truck. And truck looks sick man!

It's not hard to take off/put back on. Take it off for a day or two and see if you like it. If not put it back on.

I took the bugshield off of my 96 F150 once and stuck it right back on; it looked terrible. I just took the bugshield off of my 04 and it looks 10x better without it.

Thanks guys, for all the input and positive comments. I thought that when I posted this question, most would say "lose the mustache". I am flushing the coolant this weekend, so I think I'll pull it off and see how it looks while I'm at it.

As for the N-Fab question from five0merc, I would buy the cab length ones again, as I like the look, and I never seem to need to enter the box of my truck from the sides.

Once again, thanks for the comments and ideas

i have to say, it all depends on the truck itself. you have got a pretty sweet looking truck, and being all white like that, a little black is a nice contrast. i am sure it would look sweet either way, but i think it kinda goes with the rock sliders right now.

I almost posted this same question a few months ago. I've had a bug deflector on since not long after I bought my truck new in 02'. Just took it off a few months ago, just wanted to see how I liked it and I'm pretty sure I'm not putting it back on. Our generation has a unique design to it. I think the design of our hoods look best with out a bug deflector (and I had one on for almost 10 years ).

Back when I bought my truck it was my daily driver\commuter. I put that bug shield on to protect the hood and windshield, not for looks. Now that my truck is a weekend warrior, I'm happy with it off.

I'm not totally sure how the bug shiels fit on the 97-03's but on my 04 the bug shield actually chipped the paint off in a few places from vibration. So taking it off actually saved it somewhat.

Luckily mine actually didn't damage my paint at all for the 9+ years it was installed. It even came with these little plastic bubble things you stick on the ends to prevent damage from the shield in wind or vibration.

But yea, I think my bug shield will be going out with the recycle soon. I did manage to break the plastic screws/fasteners that came with it while removing it. Oh well, I'm digging the new look.
