Clutch Problems

99 4.2eng 5 speed manual. Had my entire clutch assembly done at 110,000 miles everything new except flywheel resurfaced. Now after only 25,000mi, the clutch is starting slip in fourth and fifth. (give it the gas, rpms increase with no speed). So my question is this, did the autoshop mess something up or did I get a bad part? I tow a boat so I am wondering if I can get a beefer set up. Thanks

It's going to cost you, but take it to the dealer and get an OEM clutch.

NOTE that depending on axle ratio, your max tow on it is anywhere between 2000# and 3500#. If you have a big boat, you don't have the right truck for the job.

Is that 2150 with or without the trailer?

2400 w/trailer. I bought the boat at the same time I got the truck. So I got 100,000 miles on the original clutch. I still think I received a bad part or bad workmanship. Thinking of taking it to a local clutch and brake shop. They recommended getting rid of the self adjusting and go with another type what do you think.

Everyone seems to bash that manual transmission but my personal experiences tell me different. My neighbor had a 99 5 spd and she used to drag a camper around with it. It wasnt a particularly "Huge one" but it wasnt one of those tiny pop up things either. Honestly looking at other sites I find that the OEM clutch sucks and if ur gonna pay dealership prices, then do your research and find an aftermarket brand that is real good and put that in. Its a really big debate. Anyway w/e it is you do gl

I tow, and I've had better luck with the OEM clutch than a so-called "heavy duty" aftermarket.

2400# is no sweat.
