Bigger's better. Better mileage as well. That's because the more you got under the hood, the less effort it takes to get there. Under normal acceleration that is. However, being 18, -there most likely isn't such a thing.

If I had a V6, I wouldn't want to here it. So I'm not much help. I'm sure some one around her will be. Just hang on.

If you make a V6 loud it aint gonna sound good. Keep it quiet is my suggestion thats the best growl you're gonna get

The laws of physics disagree with you. My last three fill ups were 17.7, 18.6 and 18.2 mpg respectively. And keep in mind I use my truck as a first responder vehicle. Show me a 5.4L touching that.

EPA's fuel charts agree as well.

x2. When I was 18 I wanted an exhaust for my truck too. But after listening to some and hearing the in-cab drone of that raspy V6, I'm much more happier with my stock exhaust/.

To the OP, I have to agree with the majority here. Do not put a loud, aftermarket exhaust on your truck. I have never personally heard one that sounded anything close to good (a.k.a not ricey). I have a V6, I researched A\M exhausts for a good while and ultimately decided to leave it stock. And I'm glad I did. Spend your money on a tune or something performance wise other than an A\M exhaust.

Under the hood. From week to week. I do not need anything special to figure mileage like you do. Just an occasional pencil and paper. There's no need to contemplate physics when it's right in front you. That would be simple math to you, I guess lol.
The 98 4.2 we owned didn't touch the 5four as far as economy. Plus it wouldn't preform when needed. We got rid of it.

I was getting atleast 20mpg consistently on my trip back from Florida. That was with the service engine soon light on too. Can a 5.4 do that? Grant it we are talking about pure highway miles. Now as far as pulling trailers or a lot of weight I can see how a 5.4 would be MUCH more preferred; and there a lot of trailers I don't think my 4.2L would be very willing to pull. I like the look of your truck by the way

Yes, it can. Thru Ohio on the turn pike I did 20 mpg w/ the 4x4. I've never seen a 4.2 come close to that.
