Wire routing for an amp

I have a 2001 f150 and I have subs and an amp dying to go in but i cant find a good spot to run the amp wiring. So i searched all around the firewall and i can't find a grommet or a place to drill to run some wire through to get to my amp, I was just wondering where you guys run it through. Thanks.

There's one on the drivers side, near the steering shaft. Or maybe it was the same hole I used. I forget

There's one over on the drivers side. But I just drilled a hole through the passenger side to keep the wire as short as possible and just bought some rubber gromets from home depot to go around it then I just tucked all the wire under the floor trim along the door.

Where did you drill at? Last time I looked there wasn't a safe looking spot on the other side of the firewall...i guess I need to look again though.

There is a plastic housing that has part of the wire harness in it that runs up around the top edge of the engine with just a few bolts holding it. I ran mine over to the drivers side through that, so it looks clean.

If you have an SCab, run your main power wire from the battery, down the firewall and under the cab to where your back seat is. There are rubber grommets under the carpet that will allow access to inside the cab. Make SUUURE you keep the power wire as tight to the cab as humanly possible (tying it up where able and necessary).

I have done this type of setup several time before with no issues, and is how I routed my CB antennae coax to the inside

I routed mine on the passenger side. Just drilled a hole through the firewall and used a grommet. Never had a problem in 8 years. Ran the power down the passenger side and audio on the drivers side. No problems.

i ran mine through the rubber grommet up above the steering column. its about a 2" grommet. then i ran my cable down the drivers side in the door channel and ran the wire under the carpet to under my drivers seat where my amp is. then i grounded the amp to the drivers seat.

Yea as for a place to drill just kinda eyeball a place on the passenger side, drill a tiny hole and if it looks good go with it if not fill it with caulk ant try again. But if I remember correct when I did it there was other wires running through there too so I just drilled on the same level as them a little to the side and it worked out perfect.

i ran mine behind the fender/ door, theres a rubber gromet that was already there. I didnt want it to go under the truck and be exposed to the element and wanted to keep the wires short as possible. I know it sounds half assed but its not. Ill half to get a picture

fairlaner has the right photo location.
Use a sharp pick to make the inital puncture then a larger phillips to make it larger.
Tape your wires to a peice of coat hanger and push through the spot.
Under the dash you can see the plug behind the interior fire wall insulation cut out 'flap'.
To dress the leads over to the battery, tape the wires again to a long stiff wire and push it through the firewall's upper plastic housing all the way over to the starter relay area.
As always, fuse the hot lead "at the battery". I saw to many examples of not doing this in the bone yard of very nice vehichle burnt up from incompetent wiring.
Good luck.
