Off road lights

Goodmorning gents,

Are there any write ups on installing off road lights behind the grill of a 1998 f150? Ive been doing some searching and have found some good ones for the newer models and there giving me a fairly good idea but I have not found any for the earlier models.

If anyone has done it on the earlier models, how secure is the plastic bar right behind the grille? I looked at it and it looks strong enough but I have my doughts. I am interested in getting some off road lights and love the look of the lights behind the grille.

And lastly I think I remember reading about someone getting some cheap off road lights, taking them apart and fitting them to be HID's. Is that possible or was I just day dreaming of it one time? I have HID's in my headlights right now and want my off road lights to be the same color, or close to it. Raptor- hopefully you will be able to help me on that one.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

D

If you have the honeycomb grill. just pull the black plastic panel covering the space between the grill and radiator support. test fit lights where you want them. Mark and drill into the fiberglass panel that runs towards the bottom of the grill. install lights run wiring harness that came with the lights.

Test wiring reinstall the cover panel your done.

looking at the firewall just left of the break booster you will see an unused grommet. Prime location to run your wires for the switch.

Do a little searching and you will find some pictures. Not much to write up on the light install.

The header panel is plenty strong to hold offroad lights. OGTerror put HIDs in his off-road lights here.

There is a grommet for the steering wheel hole I believe that runs right over the pedals on the firewall.

Always keep in mind when reading my write ups that I have a true talent for making a simple job appear far more complicated than it really is ...

IIRC i used a short piece of 10" pvc and cut thru the grill, glued them in...then grind them flush with grill so there would be a "bezel". Mounted the lights to the header center brace with 1/8" 1 x 3 alum angle on top flat bar under = sandwich...
