Really not that complicated.

Once you get the drum removed you will see how it all works together.

Are you just replacing the pads and the drum? Or are you replacing the brake cylinder as well(number 5)?

Need a little more info, and I can give you step by step instructions on how to accomplish this.

heres what you need to do.

go to rockauto or local parts store and get the shoes and a hardware kit. thatll have everything you need to replace. if you go slow and do one side at a time you can keep it simple. there are a few specialty tools you might need but you can get by without them they just help. i can get you pics of them tomorrow if you want.

only other thing is your drums might need resurfacing. they do them at napa etc for cheap.

Spend the $10 or less and get the tools, they make spring removal/installation much easier. You may also be able to get these on the loaner tool program at your local autozone/advace auto, etc. if you dont want to buy them, as its not something you will use regularly.

they can be a bear but once you done a couple, they arent nearly the hardest thing to do on a truck. so dont be to intimidated.

sorry for the triple post, i was quoting others, but what i do is take both wheels and the drums off at same time. Leave one brake drum assembly intact so as you work on one you can go around the truck and compare what you are doing with it.

well, i ordered everything from rockauto last night. got the shoes and a spring kit 2 days ago. im rebuilding because the cable for the auto adjuster broke, and the arm broke off. so my right side locks up with the slightest brake pressure. so im just gonna rebuild both sides.
