2001 supercrew rebuild
i checked all fuses switches and relays,i then pulled the tank and bench tested the pump it was bad.....today i installed the fuel pump and got the truck started,it has a bad knock in the bottom end and runs rough, so i took the intake off and discovered that the # 1,2,3 intake ports was full of gas.... the motor is junk.... anybody wanting to sell a good used 5.4 for next to nothing..lol
Today I got the front wheels off and the inner fenders, the wheels were rusted on and it took about 20 minutes a wheel with a small sledge and a block of wood, started getting the motor unbolted, as soon as I get time I'll post some more pictures of the progress...also these motors are expensive so I'm wondering if it would be better to put a salvage yard motor or just put the money in overhauling the motor that's in the truck
im just keeping it stock for the most part,i do have some pullies and throttle body and header on my 97 I might put on it
today i got the head and the oil pan off and could'nt find any damaged to the pistons or bearings it looks as if the valves never touched any of the pistons and the bearing have minimal wear, showing well for a 146,000 miles now i plan on just finding a driverside head complete and replacing the bearings and oil pump(seems how im in there)..also if anyone can help with torque specs on the crank and head bolts,im just not understanding the turn 90-95 degree thingy can somebody help me with this is 90 like a quarter turn of the bolt?
last night i ordered new main bearings new rod bearings oil pump rear main seal and a timing cover gasket set.i got every thing from advance auto parts online because you get free shipping and they offer a 20 % discount on online orders the total cost of everything to the door was 198.00.. i still need a driverside head and head gaskets new main cap bolts head bolts and possible rod bolts as ive been reading that none of these are reusable,so im using arp main bearing studs @ $100 and rod bolts@$115 and fms head gasket kit that comes with new head bolts @$135. i will also need to purchase new side bolts from the ford stealer @100. so its looking like im going to have about 650-750 in the motor, depending on the cost of a used head, which i feel isnt bad concidering that the local salvage yards want 900+ for high mile 5.4... also how do i get my pictures on here??
Thanks very much, what about reusing the main and rod bolts?

if this is going to be a stock rebuild and high horsepower is not in its future i would and have always reused them.
if this is going to be a built engine with lots of power then i would say change them.
they say to not reuse them cause when you torque a bolt it stretchs it and can cause a weak point in an engine build. but a stock engine shouldn't be a problem.

Well I got everything done and have been driving the truck since last Thursday. The total amount I had into the motor was around 1050. Which includes all new arp hardware I reused stock bore/pistons intake gaskets, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets,crank.. I replaced the driverside head (with an exceptional looking salvage yard unit$125.00.) All crank bearings oil pump and timing chain set felpro mls head gasket as well as arp head/main studs arp rod bolts and arp side bolts it runs like a dream I did have a slight issue with the fuel pump fuse missing and then the acc belt shreaded $140.00 For new belt and tenior and idealer wheel also I had to replace the tires the brand new looking tires were badly flat spotted I had a set of worn tires and wheels off my 97 that made this thing ride pretty good I also replaced the rear ds u joints 35.00 as it had a slight vibration around 70 and a vacuum hose assemble that goes to the front end,I noticed it was broken when the motor was out 44.00 from ford so the 4x4 works great with no promblems now.I have a total of around 2400. After buying oil, antifreeze and trans fluid and an new kenwood stereo
