New guy from Chicago

Hey guys, new to the forum. I've got a '99 250ld, I like to call it my F150 Super Duty though.
It's a supercab XL, currently has magnaflow cat-back. Starting to do some more stuff to it now. I was going to buy a diesel, but with gas prices the way they look to be going. I don't want, or need a $400 or higher truck payment.
So right now the truck is getting ready to go to my body shop to fix up the rust, do a little two tone paint and make it look all new again. Also looking into a tuner, not sure which yet. My shop is a dealer for Edge and Superchips though.
Also wanting to do headers and since my truck is "off road" only looking to do an off road Y pipe and a cold air intake.

Main goal is just to improve fuel economy and give it a little more power for towing.
I tow a 24' enclosed trailer for my race car.

Any suggestions, tips or tricks. Feel free to let me know. Thanks guys
Steve

Welcome to the site.

If doing headers,
make sure there the long-tube headers!
Shorty's are a wast of time and money. And you will see no power improvement with them.

Welcome!

I would recommend going with the Edge, but I don't think Power Hungry Performance does custom 97-03 tunes anymore due to cable issues, but I may be wrong.

As for improving the economy of the truck, look into getting a set of 2 16" Electric fans. These will give you a 1-2 mpg boost when empty on the highway, and maybe 1 (or 2) while towing as well. Plus you gain power from them too.

Im sure the F250Ld is a great looking truck. I miss my dad's (supposed go be mine) '97 F250 sometimes.

Actually right now it's got some rusty rockers, which I don't know how it happened because it was never a plow truck.
That's why it's going to the body shop when the weather breaks, get the rockers fixed and a few other spots of rust. It's silver now, thinking of doing either charcoal or black on the bottom. Putting Eagle Alloy wheels on it, probably getting em powder coated black.

Off road pipes are usually considered to be 3" piping. You don't want that, stick with 2.5, but a full 2.5 with mandrel bends, unless everywhere you go is WFO. Otherwise, your low end will disappear.

Right, I was planning on matching the headers with 2" and then running it to a 3" Y to match the magnaflow exhaust.

Just go with a 2.5 for the Y, from the headers. Leaving it the way it is from the headers is better than what your talking about.

Here's what she looked like when I got her.. Well after I put tires and the bug shield on it. The one step bar was screwed up when I got it, but I liked the way these looked and they were real strong.. Anyone know where to find them?

Hell yea, great looking truck there. Awesome color, too.

Those step bars look like they might be OEM? I'd look around on ebay or your local dealership. I've got Westin step bars on mine. They've held up really well, had em for years now.
