Switching to bucket seats??

So the idea of putting bucket seats and an expedition console is really starting to give me an itch. I've found a few consoles on the DFW Craigslist, one in pretty rough shape, no lid or front storage "hole", the other looking perfect from a rolled 1999 Expy.

But I have a problem that puts a hold on this.....

My current 60/40 seats have the seatbelt built into the head rests of the seats.

I know I can swap out the tops of my 60/40 so I can retain this setup, but if I were wanting arm rest on the buckets, I cant think of a way to make that happen without cutting and chopping up 4 seats to make 2....

Is there a console that is tall enough to act as an armrest without having to lean over a good bit to lean on it??

There are two versions of the consoles. On is wider on top and acts like an armrest and the other is more less narrow and allows room for fold down arm-rests. I know for sure that the harley consoles are tall enough to use as arm rests. If I were you, I would find a place that would be willing to cut your current 60 section into one bucket and re-upholster it into a "bucket" seat. Then you would have your buckets, and ebay has plenty of harley consoles or consoles similar. I dont know exactly which ones are the wide top or not, but I know thats what you need.

Yeah. I know they got wide and narrow consoles, but I wasn't sure which one would be tall enough to use.

I am actually talking to a guy on the local CL that has a wide top for sale. It doesn't have a lid or tray, but is primered, so he says. He's asking $50, but I'm hoping I can talk him down to $40 because it's lid and trayless.

And I was talking with Jake earlier, and he told me about the cutting idea. Which Inmay look into. Having the seat out would allow me time to install my 4 channel amp, but I couldn't carry anyone without putting them in the back seat.

I really way to retain my built in seat belts, so it's looking like the cutting idea is leading right now.

i had factory bucket seats with a stock console and exchanged for a narrow top expy console out of a 98 expy i believe. its plenty tall enough to lean on for an armrest but i just use my fold down ones.

if you have armrests get the narrow cuz the wide wont fit. if you dont have armrests get the wide it should be plenty tall enough.

good luck with whatever you decide.

Well I'd like a wide top for storage purposes (pistol).

And the one I found on CL was a bust. It was missing the lid and hinge, and also the tray. Don't know if all the hardware and brackets were there, but it was rough shape.

So the hunt continues. Hopefully I can find one for a reasonable price.

all you need is a track and seat pan from an expy, then cut your foam and cover down. Top of the seats are all universal bolt in/out swaps

Well Jake was talking to me about being able to cut my original 60 portion down to a bucket, that may I can retain the factory brackets and all.

That seems like a great idea. then just have the seat stitched up

a console for 05-07 250 then the "stand" from the rear buckets. raises it a few inches to get it arm height. would need a little fiberglass work. also give you extra storage with the stand its on.

only picture i could find that you can see the stand its on. send me a message on FB and i can go take a good one for you if you want.

According to the How-To by woopigsooie, I have the simple bracing to cut. I looked through his thread on it earlier, and his seat looks exactly like mine...

I think the bracing for the built in seatbelt seats is common between all of them
