wheel bearing going bad?
wheel bearing going bad?
i've got a noise at low speeds (~20 mph) that sounds like tire noise. the only thing is that it really only sounds like it's coming from the front left, and still sounds like it's from the front left after i rotated my tires. i guess the only other things it could be is a bad wheel bearing (which was replaced last year), or a warped rotor. the sound increases slightly when turning to the right at the same low speeds, i really can't hear much at higher speeds.
i had that exact wheel bearing replaced about a year ago at firestone, i guess i could take it back to them and have them check it out?
whatcha think?

Sounds like it. Jack up the front wheel off the ground and with your hands on top and bottom of tire... see if it moves in/out at all. Then try side to side. When my wheel bearing went out, I jacked the wheel and it had sooo much movement I felt lucky to catch it in time
CV axle for the front wheel drive... just inside the rim and comes though the hub bearing. Check for a broken accordion styled boot. This will let dirt and grime into the grease for its u-joint. They usually make a click-click-click sound when bad
I had to drive my truck.... for company business... to South Carolina from here in Delaware. And against better judgement... another bus driver drove it home. Then he called and said it was "making a noise". When I got back and went to head home, I was like HOLY S**T! From my experience, first thing I did was check the wheel
Cost me $250 to fix it (which the company would not pay for) and had to take off work 'cause it ain't goin' nowhere

It doesn't have to have any play to be bad. I had a thread going just last week...my front left was headed south but I had no play in mine. Just the "sand in a jar of barbells" sound. If it's the hub, the pitch/tone of the sound should change with speed instead of turing. Jack the wheel up off the ground and give it a good 'ol spin and see if you can pinpoint the sound.
