stock '97 F150 4x4 needs ideas

Ok so i have a stock 97 f150 Scab 4x4. 4.6L (w) auto tranny w/ manual transfer case. upgraded to a K&N air intake and custom dual exhaust. gotta replace upper and lower ball joints on both sides, pitman arm, and tires. so since im rippin my truck apart to do some work i thought id dive into her. She needs some power mods, (no superchargers, or turbos) cant afford that kind of mods.

debating long tube headers, redesigned custom exhaust, U/D pulleys, Electric fans / water pump? gear ratio's vs tire size vs performance, cam swaps?, any smaller cheaper mods that have proven low end hp/tq gains that will work well with a daily driver.

As far as power, You should get a custom tune. You will see the biggest gain with a gear swap, but with a 4x4 it is gonna be pretty pricey!

gear swap has definately crossed my mind, around the 4.10 mark, debating on 33 or 35 x12.5 on either 17 or 20's depending on prices n styles. all i have really found for custom tunes is the edge programmer for 15 hp, and troyer, but i dont see any numbers on his site for his gaines.

edge doesn't make custom tunes for their's but you can get an edge converted to a gryphon and it will be able to load custom tunes. There is also sct which i hear a lot of good things about.

If you do tires you can do 35x12.50 on the stock rims and now lift. Just crank your torsion bars and an aal in the rear. Thats all I have done to mine. I also have a gryphon in mine and it is a nice addition. You can take a look at my pics and see how it looks.

Five0merc i want ur truck haha, i looked hard for a 5spd but only found auto's so gave up n bought one. my ex gf had an '02 w/ a 5 spd n 6" suspension 3" body n rockin stock wheels n 35" tires n loved driving that truck. sad i couldnt find a 5 spd. But i see what ur sayin bout the wheels n its a great idea. and a side note i agree with ya tarajerame, i am definately lookin at lower gears, but i dont want to go to low n sacrifice highway mpg.

Thanks man!! Yea after I get back from my deployment I am pulling the 5 speed out and I have a 6 speed out of a 250 that is going in. And I need to body lift to get it in so that will be at the same time, and I might order my rcx 5 inch lift as well. not sure yet though. I really like the manual. Lots of fun. Haha

if i were made of $$ id do a swap to a 6 spd from an automatic, but im stuck with what i got haha. id love to know if anyone has done an electric water pump on a 4.6 n if it is worth it. cus so far i got a plan for a new exhaust n intake, under drive pulleys, programmer and gears. but i am looking at a set of 20" DC-2 wheels n might play with some tires to get max size w/o lifting.
