So do you think that red thing will come out of that male plug and make it work?

Well, you shouldn't have to. That insert is like a double lock. It strengthens or reinforces the otherwise frail locking mechanism that keeps the pins or blades in place. You'll probably have to access that thru the back of the connector, maybe not if you have a small hook tool. Thru the back you just remove the silicon plug, then with a small flash light, you can see how to disconnect and pop it out.

Yea, try again. If you can't get it to work, this is something new for sure.

And I hate to be simple but I don't see how to PM you. I looked at your profile and everything but I must be looking right past it.

I looked at the connectors again. It looks like the inserts are interchangeable, - doesn't it? What a PITA, I never seen this before.

Alright, there's this link here -

http://www.fordparts.com/Products/Wi...gtailKits.aspx

And here's the Motorcraft Catalog, - PDF, so right click and save as to your desktop or whatnot, -

http://www.fordtechservice.dealercon...torcatalog.pdf

Yea, save that, it may not be there next time you try to access.

Wasn't able to check those connectors until today. The red thing wouldn't come out and there is no way these two different COPs interchange. The good news is that I stopped at the parts store and asked to see a COP and lucky me, it matches mine instead of the other. I figured I could find the best deal on COPs on the web.

In the meantime, my SES light hasn't came on since unhooking my battery and I wanted to check the code again before purchasing anything.

So from what I understand, most of you (mostly jbrew lol) think this is a COP problem? Here is the rundown one more time. The engine is now missing at all speeds and gears but the worst is low RPM overdrive. Replaced plugs and that didn't help crap. After checking cats for blockage for the DPFE issue, the exhaust shop guy checked the code and he said #1 and #5 were the problems but stupid me didn't actually ask him what the exact code numbers were (this was before changing plugs).

Also, when first driving with a cold engine, it seems to run great until about a mile down the road and then the missing starts.

I had motorcraft cop's on my truck. When I removed them, there was one that was different, a green, well maybe more blue... motorcraft cop with a different serial number. They had 2 different connectors like what your showing, but they both plugged in just fine.
Guess I better read the whole thread... lol, I see these green ones were used earlier.

You can see the pins are just like the difference in the ones you showed. They fit just fine.

Anyway. just thought I'd share that. And I have the yellow clip so thats why they both fit

Truck is a 99, engine in it is from an 00. Those cop's came off the 00, both of them. They were mix matched for some reason. Not sure why because the engine only had 10k miles on it. I may have mixed them up somehow during the swap but kept them separate so I dunno... My harness is like your dads truck though, which fits both those styles. Looking at your harness, I see where your coming from and don't think they will fit the one with the ridge. I would be careful of the duralast cop's... Not sure their reputation is so good with these replacements. I can go look tomorrow if the global cop's I have now have the ridge or not. If not, I would buy those instead if I were you.

And yea jbrew, if you are going on three years with those, that definetly seems worth the cash compared to most. I kinda only planned on replacing them as I go too.

Looks like the yellow one reads 12A388 to me. Isn't that a different part.
