New to site and I need opinions

Hi Guys,

I been a lurcker for about 3 weeks and finally joined up.

I'm the original owner of a 2000 f150 xlt extra cab 4.6l 5speed with 3:55ls.
with 162,000 miles on her. Best truck I have ever owned!

I haven't done much to it over the years. Always wanted to keep her stock but I can't seem to not upgrade some things.
Mods already done:
K&N filter in stock airbox and plan on doing the GOTTS mod I read about this weekend.
Flowmaster 40 series from the y pipe back.
Fabtech front spindle kit with rear blocks and weld wheels.

I'm looking to get a little more out of her now.
I have a line on a superchips 1715 programmer (for cheap) and a hurst short shift kit.

I'm on a budget like everyone else now a days.

Will this be some good upgrades for this old truck. I'm looking for feedback from members that may have experience with these products.

I have done searches on this site but it seems most are old and wanted to see if anyone has had any issues with these products since they were installed. (JMC I can't wait to hear if you can shed some light on this for me)

Thanks Again Guys!

if you're ona budget then why are you considering wasting your time and money on a canned tuning device???

Ok Let me rephrase that then. I have a budget of 400.xx
Please keep in mind that I have a 5 speed and don't have a need for any type of tranny shift tunning.

I can get a canned tuned superchips for 100.xx. I know it's not the best but isn't it better than stock settings for my little mods I have done? Also as many cop's I've replaced I thought I could use it like a code reader and I could also change the tire size on the pcm since I have bigger wheels and tires on it for correct reading on my speedo.

I know it can't be custom tunned but I thought it would be better than nothing. (considering I've had this truck for the last 11yrs without any kind of chip upgrade) and at 100.xx That will also allow me to buy the LAST Hurst shift kit in the country according to the guys at Hurst/B&M Racing since it was discontinued long ago.

Thanks again for your help.

I would recommend against doing bigger tires with the lift unless you're gonna regear too. that 5spd is pretty weak behind the V8 and you dont want to stress it with heavier taller tires

K&N filter in stock airbox
Put the dry filter back in. All you are going to do with a K&N is foul the MAF with the oil and let more dust in.

Thanks but I've been running that setup now for 5 years and never had an issue with the MAF getting dirty/foulded.

Again, Like I statted in my original post this is by far the best truck I have every owned. No issues other than COP's and that is nowmal for this motor especially with high miles.

So Again I'm Asking for Input on the Superchip 1715 prorammer and the hurst Shift kit.

Str8r 6: Thanks for the reply. I ordered my Shift kit from B&M today!!! I can't believe I actually got the last one. Can't wait to get it tomorrow. Thanks for your input on the superchips too. I know it's not the best on the market but for the price it's seems like it's better than nothing or a cheap knock off on ebay chip for 50.xx. After I get these two items done I'll have to save pennies again for a while to replace the clutch for the first time (any suggestions on a good performance clutch for the 5 speed?).

With 162k on the factory clutch, why would you use anything else but OEM? I made the mistake of putting a "heavy duty" aftermarket in mine and it was terrible. It's got an OEM back in it now.

Do everything - disk, pressure plate, slave/throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and bench grind or replace the flywheel. If the rear main seal is leaking at all, do that too.

I've had mine for 5 years. I've never had a problem. The only MAF stories I've heard are from people who oiled theirs wrong.

E-fan. Cheap easy and most bang for your buck. i have a lincon mark 8 fan. the crown vics have the same electric fan. i always recommend E-fans for people looking for more power.

ive ran a K&N77 with an open oil filter with no probs to MAF or intake. and ive re oiled it twice.
