yeah, i've always wanted to take a manual offroad. although i dont think any of the mustangs or the 3500 Cummine dually 2WD would have done very well

im hoping to do a ZF5 swap into this truck eventually

my 93 4x4 was a manual... use to mud ride in it all the time. Not sure about any technical riding though, if thats what you mean. In that case I'm gonna go with GLC and say yeah, only real men do...

trail riding and mudding is best with a manual imo..... you have the option of gears over an automatic, and the fact water/ mud will not eat a manual tranny as it does an automatic. keep a good clutch that is free of mud and keep fresh tranny fluid in the truck and it will be great. With an automatic the slightest water/mud in the tranny will cause slipping and malfuntions. like i said kep the clutch mud free and if you go through deep water change the fluid and you will have an awsome trail riding rig..............

My '95 Bronco did just fine with it's M5OD. Yes, it was pretty close to stock...and only had 31's...but I think if you pick good lines, you'll get places that others won't.

As long as your low range 4wd works, the M5OD can handle it. It doesn't have a granny gear like a ZF.

i didnt like offroading with a 5spd. just my personal preference. although it is fun reving and dropping the clutch in some thick mud!!

but i would go with 4.88 gears with those 38's. that will help the transmission better than 4.56's

with a manual transmision you can use youre clutch to help you get through those sticky situations by using the clutch to "lurch" the truck through that thick mess. just my opinion

This is the first 4X4 I've owned w/ an auto trans. Some ways I like it better, some ways I don't. I never see mud (I live in California), mostly puttin' along on dirt roads in the desert.

I sure do miss a manual. My first F150 was a manual. It was sometimes a PITA to drive in stop and go but over all fun to drive.

If you keep a stock clutch the tranny might hold up. If you get a good clutch that won't slip expect to break something with big tires.
