It just seems like it would take some VERY extreme cold to effect it that severely. But I guess rust and cold is just a bitch on trucks. Luckily I don't have to worry about that

I would think that it would be more of the road salts during winter that have ate away at it all of these years and one finally rusted all the way through.

If the problem is limited to one year, it comes from the metal itself (bad metal to say). Don't use die grinder. You are removing metal. Assuming rusting isn't too bad, just brush off loose rust and put primer and top coat. Or put rust conversion before painting.

I just broke my right side torsion bar today. Pulling out of a parking lot and the right side snapped and collapsed. Was able to limp back home.

Anybody know where to source the parts other than the dealership? It's Sunday, the day after Christmas, so nobody at the dealers until tomorrow.

Yours is not the normal F150 as the F250ld and 7700 series used a stronger torsion bar. Dealership would be best bet. They run about $85-$95.

Do a search for "OEM Ford parts". A lot of large dealerships have set up internet shopping service and sell OEM parts a lot cheaper than smaller local dealerships.
