Torsion bars

Any one with 97-2003 trucks that had a torsion bar snap? My buddy's truck just had this happen.

Also, his truck was in the driveway, not even driving, when he heard a 'pop'. He looked out there and didn't notice anything (its freezing outside) but goes out yesterday and there it is, collapsed on the right side. He had a mechanic friend of his crawl under it, and that guy said the T-bar snapped.

is there a reason this would happen? is it common? his truck is pretty much stock, 2000 XLT 4x4 supercab. If common, is there a TSB or recall that could help get the repair taken care of by Ford?

Yes, it's very common on one year model. I think it's the 1998's that are bad about snapping torsion bars. Obviously there was a defect on the torsion bars during that model year but I don't know if Ford ever released a TSB on it.

Huh, never heard of that happening. I'll look in the TSB's.

No, it was just a one year problem from what I remember. It may have been the 2000 model year.
