I don't think that's true. Pretty sure there is just a standard 4X4 Sticker I've seen on our trucks. The guy I sold my topper to has the EXACT SAME truck as I have, same year, same packages, same color, same EVERYTHING and his has standard 4X4 decals, JUST 4X4. Mine doesn't have anything. I'm pretty sure our trucks did come with a 4X4 sticker. And yes, it did occur to me that someone could have bought them and put them on, thank you, but I've seen them around more than once which I think is more than coincidental. I'll see if I can find a picture

Chevy has used z71 as an appearance package for Tahoes and Suburbans for years. On the Silverado its always been an offroad package, simmilar to FX4. As far as I know Tahoes and Suburbans that have the z71 package also have the same off road package and heavier suspension than a standard 4X4. And as far as I know the z71s always have been and are still only 4X4s.

My '01 doesn't have stickers. I'm fairly certain the previous owner took them off when he put on the topper. When I bought the truck from the dealer I asked about getting stickers put on and they asked "4X4" "Off Road 4X4" or "FX4". What I've gotten from reading on this site is that before 2002 the "Off Road 4X4" Package is the same as 2002+ "FX4" and that they have always had a standard 4X4 as shown in the picture I posted above.

Yes FX4 began in 2002. You could get it as a package on top of the XLT and Lariat. Idk about Xl's though. For 2004NBS they made it into several packages with the stx and fx4 added in as their own packages. The 4x4 Off Road I believe is the beef-ed up 4x4 just like the FX4
