Exclamation URGENT!!--need some help guys

Hey guys...not having a good night. As I was coming home from hunting, my driver's front wheel came apart causing me to slide down the highway on my caliper and tie rod.
Luckily, I'm not hurt nor was anyone else. I was somehow able to get it to the shoulder of the road without hitting anything or anyone.
The wheel studs were sheared off and it appears that the wheel just came apart. I have it towed to a Ford dealer to get the suspension and all checked out.
WHO MAKES FORD FACTORY FX4 WHEELS???? Who is the manufactuer?? I am now scared that this could happen again with one of the other wheels. IS there ANY type of recall on FX4 wheels??? Mine are the 17" ones on my 2003. Please help!---DirtySCREW

It was probably incorrect lug torque.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Most Aluminum are 100' lbs. That's one thing I always use a torque wrench on, - a habit I don't wanna break.

Look at the lug nut washers, if you have washers. Ford has the torque #'s for your rims either stamped or raised on the washers.

I've heard of caliper bolts (anchor plate bolts) coming loose and tearing things up as soon as you touch the brakes. I can't recall which one, either the top bottom, - anyway, if the right one falls out while your driving and you tap the brakes, - the caliper whips around, explodes, blows out the tire plus screws the rim up beyond repair.

Glad your alright, that's no fun, -specially a steer tire.

BTW - Ebay for rim.

Thanks for the support guys.

And I was going to try ebay or F150 forums on people selling their wheels since they may have gotten aftermarket wheel/tires and a lift.-----DirtySCREW

Reminds me of my Pops Ford Ranger. Factory everything, never touched except to have a set of tires put on at the local shop.

Bad vibration started and we removed the wheel to inspect. Well, I will back up and tell you that it took a foot long ratched with a two foot breaker bar over it to remove the lugs. Upon removal of the lugs you could see where the aluminum and chrome was splitting. I really dont see how they managed to put those on so tight.

Of course when we called to complain, they said that they were only set to 50 ft lbs each / lug....Bull****! I would swear they were set to 120 or greater.

Beware of tire shops.
I usually buy my rims/ tires and let them balance, but I take them and mount them myself. Always have, always will.

Good luck man.

Glad you were not hurt.
