Switchblade Key Mod w/ Keyless Entry

Hey guys, I thought I'd share my Key Mod with everyone. Not sure if this has been posted on these forums, I searched, but didn't find. If you have two factory keys (or just two chipped keys) you can do this yourself.

What you need:

Switchblade Wireless Entry Key
2 Chipped Keys
Dremmel Tool or Hacksaw
Sandpaper
2 Coors Lites
1 Hour's Time

The key we will be making is a switchblade style key & looks like this:

Here's how to do it...
[1] Make sure you have two chipped keys
[2] Purchase key from eBay
[3] Get new key cut at your favorite hardware store
[4] Open Coors Lite #1
[5] Take swig
[6] Plug the ignition key slot to avoid getting plastic debris inside.
[7] Cut the ear off the ignition cylinder with a dremmel or hacksaw to allow the new key to fit into the ignition chamber. Sand it smooth to your liking.

I haven't finished sanding mine because I'm going to hydrograph it, but here's an idea of how flat you can get it:

[8] Open Coors Lite #2
[9] Gather Both Factory Keys & Switchblade Key together

The following instructions will program the chip on your new key:
Note the following relevant key positions:
1- Key goes in and out
2- Steering wheel lock
3- OFF/Steering wheel unlock
4- ON (Run)
5- Engine Start
[10] Insert factory key #1 into the ignition cylinder.
[11] Turn the ignition cylinder to the #4 ON (RUN) position and back to the #3 OFF position. (Do not start the engine). Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.
[12] Remove the key and insert factory key #2 WITHIN TEN SECONDS and turn it to the ON (RUN) position and back to OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.
[13] Insert the new switchblade key WITHIN TWENTY SECONDS and turn it to the ON (RUN) position. Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.
[14] The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

The following instructions will program the keyless entry buttons on your new key:
[15] Insert any chipped key into the ignition cyllinder and turn from position 3 (OFF) to position 4 (ON/RUN) eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the 4 (ON/RUN) position. (The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.)
[16]Within 20 seconds, program each remote transmitter by pressing any button on that transmitter (press any button on each remote you wish to have working). The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)
[17] When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm the programming has been completed.

Enjoy...

Mmm interesting...so, the switchblade container will do all the same remote functions as your oem remote after you have programmed it?

should have got a fusion flip key with the buttons. looks better.

the fusion keys dont work with 97-03's unless u cut ur key hole like he did above. but u could just swap out ur key ignition with a nbs one and itl work no problem.

donkeyshark got a finalized pic of ur ignition??

I'll take a shot of the ignition, it's not perfect because I was planning on hydrographing it. I'll hit it with buildable primer, sand, primer, sand, base coat then graph it. But I won't get to that for a while. My wife and I are in the middle of moving across the country (from Seattle to San Diego).

So if I get a Fusion flip key, it will program to my truck no problem? The only issue with those keys is that the ignition key hole (or ear) hinders key insertion? If so, I may try it out. I read before that it works on the new trucks, but was under the impression that it didn't work for 97-03s.

Ya, it's not for everyone. I sorta like it. I've seen better, but it's a huge upgrade from factory IMO.

Are you talking about this key? Or one like this.

I can't seem to find the stock Fusion key anywhere. Do you have a link?

Isn't that more like "down the coast"? Cross country implies from one side of the country to the other

The great thing about Coors Lite is that after you're finished drinking them you can pee in the bottle and it will taste exactly the same.

Just messing with you.

Nope. The term "across" is not bound by cardinal direction. You had me worried there!
