Cleaned up the frame a bit, pictures
Thanks to GATOR CREW's most recent pictures, and some comments from people who have painted their frame) I decided for some reason that I needed to clean up my frame. So I started with inside the wheel wells for now. Eventually I plan on doing the rest of the frame (whats left under the cab), the drive shaft, and the rear diff and axels. I also will redo the reciever, my dad had some pretty lame paint that I used on it last fall thats pretty crummy already. I was recommended Rustoleum, so I used that along with Rustoleum primer as well. So we'll see how it holds up to a Minnesota winter. I don't drive the truck much anymore, so hopefully it does ok.
I used various wire brush heads for my drill and hand wire brushes to clean it up, then sprayed everything down with the hose for prep. I am pleased with the results, it certianly isn't a show truck, but I think it looks ok! Let me know what ya think! In a couple pictures the paint is still wet, its not a glossy paint.

The truck as she sits now. Picture is a couple months old, only thing thats changed is I got Conservation plates now.

I used a flat black. I was able to get most of the rust off with wirebrushes, but some of it is too difficult. Hopefully it holds up for at least a while. I'm not going ot be putting much more money into it aside from finishing it and touching it up as needed.
I am getting sooo much inspiration this weekend
But I would like to know.... just with this one example below.... how long did it take you to clean just this one area? The first pic looks sooo nasty, yet the second looks way smooth. Just look at the torsion bar itself. Good work .
BTW... new front brake dust shields only cost me $17 ea. from the dealer

Thanks guys!
I didn't put as much work into prep as I thought I would. I decided not to take anything apart, or get to nuts. I got all kinds of different sized wire brushes and wire brush attachments for my drill and that got into almost everything. I would say I spent about 50 mintutes cleaning each wheel well. Also when I hosed them out I got in there with rags to help it dry faster (impatient) and get the puddles water out, but also to help ensure other crap wasn't sticking. Its amazing what I got off on the rags after sanding and washing....
I was almost thinking about getting in with a grinder, but space is just to tight, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to try and deal with it..
You will want a full day to do it, if I would have I would have probably gotten the rear diff and axels done, probably not the drive shaft though...
And yea, the dust shields have to go, I'll do that when I have to do the brakes, they're just crumbling apart...
Oh, and didn't you know, plastic torsion bars are the new big thing??
