Why else would I have you order 10 ? Damnit KingCog, you broke that one on purpose, - I know you did. Send me the other one, - that you didn't touch. It's still in the box right ?

Jokin -

KC- Didn't recall you purchasing the 10 pack actually. Yea, thought steiner78 was the first sucker.

I'm getting ready to do the very same thing to my truck and was hoping one of you could clarify a few things for me.

First of all I have a 98 5.4L Due I use anti-seize on the plugs ?

Also is there a lubricant of fluid used to pour in the plug hole to help loosen the plug ?
Is the 28 pound torque good for the '98' as well?

Sorry don't mean to steal this thread.

Hippiehater (good name)...

I wouldn't put anything down in there to loosen it up. I'm pretty sure most of my plugs had been down there for YEARS and many many miles, and i had no problems loosening them! The only thing i would feel comfortable putting down there is shop air...but i'm no pro.

Do a search on this topic...i ended up finding like 4 other threads that all answered different sticking points on the job - and hopefully this thread got the rest of the dummy questions answered (hey, at least i'm good for something ). DO NOT use anti seize.

jbrew: yeah i bought the ten pack. I figured it was about the same price, i get two extra, and seeing as i'm shipping so far north i DID NOT want to have one be messed up and be screwed!! Seems to be running pretty good - no real change (there were no real issues - just what i assumed was a misfire CEL). And the CEL has yet to come on since changing! Although it did scare me one time...started it up, heard some clicking and thought "oh crud" expecting a blowout...then 45 sec later...nothing. And nothing since. :S

Anyways, good luck hippiehater - really not a tough job - hardest part i found was removing the fuel rail and trying to clean around everything. One of the few times i wish i had midget hands.

A clicking sound - I hope there's not any debris in one of the cylinders. Well, if there was, it found a new home somewhere. Hopefully somewhere safe.

Clicking or tapping? I get a little of what I think it lifter tapping every now and then on a cold start which goes away in 10secs or so. Or it could be a little piston slap if it's a cold morning. 5.4s are notorious for piston slap when cold. My buddies '98 5.4 expedition almost sounds like a diesel on real cold mornings. It goes away in a few minutes when it's warmed up.

Thanks KingCog, I had read a number of post s and was a little unclear on those couple of things. I 'll be a lot better perpared to do it just by having the right tools and parts before I start thanks to some of you on here.
This site has saved my butt more than once not to mention my wallet !

Thank you,

A Fram filter as never touched my truck. I only run the Motorcraft FL-820S oil filter that I pick up at WalMart. Thanks for the suggestion though...
