past / present / future?
my idea for the bumper was to paint the steel piece in the middle the same colour as the truck and i was going to bed liner the rest of it... (the rest of it being the top pad and bottom valance as well as the fender flares), or something sort of rugged looking, anyways i thouht it would look pretty cool with the middle the same colour as the truck
It has been awhile since I have been on! Main reason I have been so far away from keeping up with everything is because of school. Well, fortunately for me.. I just got a decent paying job. We will just see how decent it really is. First couple paychecks are going to buying a commuter car/street bike. Meanwhile. I am making a new list for the truck as I want to do some things to it.
Taking my old list, here it is.
Things I would like to do / get done / get
1) Blacked out headlights (done)
2) Tinting tail lights (done)
3) Painting honeycomb black (done)
4) Painting fender flares black (not done but thinking of going with some bushwackers)
5) Painting the top of the bumper black (painted it white, done)
6) Getting window visors (done)
7) New exhaust system completely (true dual with magnapacks, x pipe, and high flow cats)
8) Gotts mod (for now, CAI down road when nothing left to do to add sound) (Was planning on doing the Gotts mod, but think I might go the route of an intake)
9) Regearing
10) Down road, maybe 3" body lift and getting 38s
11) Grpyhon CTS custom tuned
12) Headers
13) new sound system, 13TW5 and everything else
14) where speedometer is, whole new setup there
15) White covers for the doorlights
16) Bedliner
Things to do in order I want to do them.
1) Grpyhon CTS custom tuned
Already know I will be going through http://www.gopowerhungry.com/_gryphon_cts_gas.shtml
It talks about custom tunes so I will have to look into those things.
2) Painting fender flares black (not done but thinking of going with some bushwackers)
Haven't done research for cheap places to find them yet. I wasn't originally a huge fan but they are slowly growing on me. Not sure if I want to line-x them when I get my bed done.. Looking at MossyOak3006 photos of his truck, it looks beautiful though!
I do also like his front bumper look but not sure how that will look on mine.
3) Gotts mod (for now, CAI down road when nothing left to do to add sound) (Was planning on doing the Gotts mod, but think I might go the route of an intake)
Haven't done the research yet but planning on looking at CAI and seeing what I come up with that interests me the most.
4) Bedliner
5) New exhaust system completely (true dual with magnapacks, x pipe, and high flow cats)
After this setup I am fairly sold.
https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...s-concern.html
6) Headers
Have 0 research on this
7) Regearing
People recommend 4.88 but is that the best to go with? I want to get some of my power and gas mileage back. My goal is to buy a new set of mud grapplers here within next 6 months.. I was thinking about getting the 37s so I would need to jump on some gearing for sure. I believe I heard of Yukon as being a good brand.
8) where speedometer is, whole new setup there
9) Down road, maybe 3" body lift and getting 38s
Mud grapplers for sure. America's tires told me the biggest they can get is 37s. Nittos website talks about 40s (that prob too big) but not sure if that would work to begin with. Maybe just settle for 37. Not too ridiculously larger of tires but still fill up the gaps a little.
10) new sound system, 13TW5 and everything else
11) White covers for the doorlights
I know you may think "why is he regearing so late?" Well, I don't plan to do much with my truck once I get a commuter. Basically just park it. I figure I can just knock things in brackets. When I do the exhaust setup have them do it with the headers as well. Try to save the money on labor (I have no tools not any idea how to do any mechanics so rather not ruin something, that will be the next toy vehicle). Plus, even though they seemed so far away. I am actually saving up to do everything within a two week period, so it will all be done around the same time.. Again if I make the cash.
My goals are to do some research on everything and see where to find the best prices are or things that fit my tastes. If you have any resources please feel free to share.
Other things I am looking at is potentially taking the front bumper off and replacing it with a prerunner style bumper, potentially with a winch?
Headache rack and maybe new tool box. I want a rack that I can attach lights too. I do like these styles. The break lights are nice.

I will be doing more research of course but is there a big difference on rhino line and line-x? Does going to a certain shop compared to another make a difference? I have a friend who is a mechanic and has a shop, but sure what all he does but I plan to see if he can cut me deals here and there.
Again, a lot of research to do and this wont be going down for awhile anyways. Figured I would have everything planned and ready to go.
Oh, and this will probably go on the windshield. Need to support the school of course. Just need to find a good place to get a cheap decal made.

Heres some updated photos though, and a video of fun at the beach.

Never guess who had to get him unstuck? Was a pain in the ... Thats for sure.

what size wheel are you running? if you got 18's i would go with the 38x15.5 mud graps.
Unfortunately I am running 17s. Apart of me almost wants to get new wheels just so I can fit into the 38s. Thats the size I really wanted to be at originally, especially because of the width. The 17s only allow me to get into a 13.5 which is a bit crappy. Not sure If I want to fork out cash for wheels again though. I mean, yea I can sell my old ones but big investment haha.
As far as gearing, is there a good website to look at buying them? Typically what am I looking to spend? Also, I have heard all about lockers but want to give me a brief explanation on them?

call wayne at diffsonly.com he had the cheapest prices on gears and master install kits. or you could just call around and see what places charge for gears and install. expect to pay anywhere between 1200-2200 for that.
Lockers get rid of the one wheel peel. they allow both tires to lockup and spin at the same rate even if one is off the ground.
i know how you feel man! i have 17's too! i really want to run those 38" grapplers. i wish i could afford to get some 20's and new tires.

Hah no kidding! I just know I will need new tires sooner or later so maybe I will do it. I want kind of a pitbull look so might be my best option to just get new wheels as well. Maybe I can shake my fist and they will adjust sizes lol.
I will have to look into that. Thats what I figured, but does it interfear with high end speeds etc? Does it need to be engaged?
high speeds? exactly how fast do you want to go with 38" tires?
but no they dont.
detroit lockers dont need to be engaged they are an automatic locker. the is also a detroit trutrac locker.
im not sure who makes an electronic locker for the 9.75 rear.

Haha, well.. my speeding tickets cost me a job at the car dealership.. So just the speed limit really. I just didn't know if having it engaged all the time causes problem to the vehicle or if it doesnt anything at all other than making sure the rears spin at the same time.
Is there a difference in just normal driving at all or is it strictly the only time you notice it is when your 4x4ing? Typically how much do lockers run?

oh man that sucks!
my detroit locker is noticable when making turns and trying to accelerate because its trying to lock up but the force of turning is making it ulock. its also noticeable when going in reverse because there is a little play in the locker itself.
but you can go for a detroit tru trac that is more street friendly.
these two lockers cost between 550-750.
